Japan, 〒600-8505 Kyoto, Shimogyo Ward
It’s a Buddhist temple with really amazing architecture. Large wooden buildings very beautiful. Very close to the Kyoto station it’s about 5-10 minutes walk away from Kyoto station.entrance free. It was beautiful and peaceful inside the temple. Not crowded like other temples. Great place for meditation. One of the best temple in Japan. Love this temple
This is one of the largest historical wooden buildings in Japan. It is truly magnificent architecture, with a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere. Even though it is a short walking distance from Kyoto Station it is not crowded and noisy at all, if you are lucky you can see the monks. The Kyoto tower view from the garden is nice. The artwork inside is absolutely beautiful.
Great place. Simple enough and elegant. Good view of Kyoto tower as well. It is good if you are interested in architecture, Buddhism or just want to see some historic places in Kyoto. It is free entry.
Unlike many of the other temples around the city, there were not massive crowds of tourists. Nonetheless, the temple itself was really impressive in size and detail. I sat for a prayer service which was wonderful.
We visited Higashi Hongan-ji in an early morning during the week. It was very quiet and there were barely visitors. The architecture of this temple is magnificent and the site is grand. The details of decoration inside the main temple are aesthetic and we spent quite some time appreciating them. Highly recommend it if visiting Kyoto.
