Japan, 〒600-8399 Kyoto, Shimogyo Ward, Maruyacho, 117 西本願寺前
A lot of reviews from English speakers complain of English not being available at the exhibits in this museum. This is Japan - English speakers aren’t the centre of the cultural universe here. This museum was created to educate Japanese people on the history of Buddhism in its various schools and lineages, as Buddhism is a major faith practice in this country. You can easily appreciate it without English signage, or do your own research if you’re especially interested to learn. The museum makes a perfect stop on a half day or slow-day visit to the two Hongan-ji and nearby Shōsei-en. The architecture and curation are both extremely high quality for such a localised space - true Kyoto style.
an absolute stunning piece of architecture. I almost cried from joy when I see the beautiful detail of the stair, handrail and facade. Magnificent masterpiece in kyoto. Must see for architect.
