I believe this is one of the most unique train station's I've ever visited. This station has everything: wonderful architecture, malls, transportation of EVERY kind, mister donut, and even a kind of hidden public piano (on a 7th floor somewhere, I won't be too specific). You can walk around here for hours.

Kyoto Station Building is a striking architectural landmark and a hub of activity in the heart of Kyoto, Japan. Opened in 1997, the building was designed by renowned architect Hiroshi Hara and stands as a modern counterpoint to Kyoto’s rich historical heritage. Its futuristic design, characterized by bold geometric lines, extensive use of glass and steel, and an open, spacious interior, reflects a forward-looking vision while serving as a gateway to the ancient city. At 15 stories tall, the building houses not only the main train station but also a diverse range of facilities, including a shopping mall, hotels, restaurants, and cultural spaces. The station serves as a major transportation hub, connecting the city to the Shinkansen (bullet train) network, local trains, and buses, making it a vital node for residents and visitors alike. One of the building’s highlights is its Grand Staircase, an expansive flight of steps that doubles as a seating area and light display. The Sky Garden on the rooftop offers panoramic views of Kyoto, blending the city’s traditional and modern elements. Inside, the Atrium and Concourse provide an awe-inspiring sense of space, enhanced by natural light streaming through the glass façade. Despite some initial controversy over its modern appearance in a historically significant city, the Kyoto Station Building has become an iconic landmark. It symbolizes Kyoto’s seamless blend of tradition and innovation, offering a dynamic and welcoming space for millions of travelers each year.

Kyoto Station is one of the best subway stations I've ever seen and been to. The whole building is stunning, and architecture is amazing. It's also like a mall with many shops and restaurants.
