10 Nandomachi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo
Was a nice Japanese restaurant for noodles(wheat or buckwheat / hot or cold) and some tempuras. They have more varieties if you can read/speak Japanese. An English menu only shows some basic noodle and tempura dishes. One thing that my colleague ordered apart from the eng menu was a grilled duck called "Kamo niku", if you fancy that.
providing traditional buckwheatnoodle in Japanese style interior.
The exterior has changed compared to the one in the photo or on the internet, but you can find it right next to the bus stop so it’s easy to spot. The staff was very friendly and sweet and immediately offered me halal menu when she saw me wearing hijab. Her English isn’t very good, but she was willing to help and communicate. The english menu doesn’t have many choices: tempura soba, soba in bamboo, soba with broth, and tempura set. We tried the tempura soba and soba with broth and they were delicious. They offer free cold ocha. The duck-shaped origami used as chopstick rest was cute and when I asked the staff about it, she gave me a bunch of them.
Absolutely delicious. menu has about 4 things in English but everyone seemed to be getting the same thing so we ordered that too. Soba noodles with a sauce to dip in, a shrimp, scallop, sweet potato, and zucchini piece of tempura and a sauce for them. Tea was served to us as well as a hot towel. Our japanese is very limited and so was there English so we all apologized to each other a lot and the food was divine.
