I visited Kyoto Aquarium in September 2024 and had a wonderful experience exploring this family-friendly attraction. If you’re looking for a clean, comfortable, and engaging place to spend a few hours, this aquarium is definitely worth considering. One of the highlights of the visit was the jellyfish exhibit. It’s absolutely stunning and feels like stepping into an underwater dream. The display is mesmerizing, with various species of jellyfish gracefully floating in beautifully illuminated tanks. It’s a must-see and was definitely the most impressive part of the aquarium for me. The aquarium is well-maintained, and the layout makes it easy to navigate. It’s spacious enough to comfortably accommodate visitors, and the atmosphere is peaceful, making it ideal for families with children or anyone seeking a relaxing outing. If you’re interested in seeing the dolphin show, be sure to check the schedule in advance. The show is popular, and timing your visit to catch it can add another layer of enjoyment to your experience. Watching the dolphins perform is both entertaining and educational, especially for kids. Overall, Kyoto Aquarium offers a great mix of exhibits, from marine life displays to interactive activities. While it may not be the largest aquarium in Japan, it certainly delivers in quality and presentation. I’d highly recommend it for families or anyone looking to explore a quieter, more serene side of Kyoto’s attractions.

Highly recommend this aquarium! It isn’t a huge place, however the species they are showing there are special, like the eel, jelly fish, salamander, etc. You could see the animals up close - I had never been able to observe penguins and seals so close in another zoo / aquarium. The dolphin show was great! Although we just spent 2-3 hours there, it’s definitely the highlight of the day!

Came on a Sunday, and surprisingly the crowd isn’t too overwhelming. It’s a rather small aquarium - I could get it done in less than an hour. But the animals available are more than what I’ve expected! Dolphin shows, penguins, jelly fishes, seals.. not too bad for a small space! Entrance fee is around S$22 (bought on klook as compared to S$24 on site), will still recommend anyone to visit.

Nice aquarium. There are some annual passports for around ¥5,000. There are lots of giant salamanders there. The aquarium is so beautiful. There is a dolphin show where you can see a Shinkansen passing. The tickets are a bit pricey. The view of the jellyfish, stingrays, penguins and other fish are pretty. I would love to visit another time.

I will always try to visit this aquarium whenever I'm in Kyoto - it never gets boring, even though it's not very large. The admission price is very reasonable, considering it's well-maintained, family-friendly, easy to navigate, and spacious enough for large crowds. Some highlights include the dolphin stadium (be sure to check the show schedule in advance), penguin nest, giant salamander, and the Sea of Kyoto display, which is amazing and beautiful. There are also two cafes and one gift shop. Definitely worth visiting if you're in Kyoto.
