I came to Kyoto from Canada. I stayed at Appa Hotel near Kyoto Station and was looking for food and I found Sonia Indian Nepali Restaurant nearby. I ate at this restaurant for 5 days and the food in this restaurant was amazing. I had never experienced this before. Very tasty and I liked it very much. I would recommend it to everyone. ?The way of talking to the customers and their service is very good. Thank you so much ??for Sonia giving me the best service.??
Had a delicious dinner on 17 Mar 2025. Everything we ordered was great…I have all positive comments. First thing, excellent food….portion size was just right and on the table within 15 min. We sat at the table closest to the cash register/kitchen so we were able to watch them make the naan. Besides being delicious, each of the naan were HUGE….we ordered two plain naan, a garlic naan and one garlic and cheese naan…(Naan-Olympics) My brother ordered the Happy Set Meal and I had Chicken Tikka Marsala and some rice. We also split one order of Veg Momo dumplings. We did all this because we were hungry and because we are pigs….but this tag team couldn’t finish everything. Some of the naan will be breakfast tomorrow morning and that’s okay! The server was super friendly, professional and very efficient….great job! The two gentlemen working the kitchen were the same….super friendly, professional and very efficient. They have about 6 or 7 tables in the dining area and the atmosphere was authentic. I will definitely eat at Soniya again when I’m in Kyoto. Thanks again for the delicious meal!
We went to SONIYA on our first evening in Kyoto & were pleasantly surprised with the quality & quantity of food. I did not expect to get such value for money from an Indian/Nepali restaurant in the heart of Japan. The food was served quick & piping hot. If you have spent more than a week in Japan and craving some home-like Indian/Nepali food, then SONIYA in Kyoto is a must-go.
MUST EXPERIENCE-Overall amazing experience. Wonderful hospitality. We had various dishes and All did not disappoint and held up to the high standard set by the number of reviews. Food is very authentic and it is very tasteful. Star dish, butter chicken very flavorful. Vegetarian dish paneer, butter masala was top-notch. If you are visiting or nearby, this is a must stop location which will not disappoint.
I went to Soniya on my first day at Kyoto. I liked their Nepali thali set. Spice was just right and amount was heavy. They serve plenty of vegetarian options. I recommend their nepali food options. It is within 1.5 km radius from Kyoto station. You must exit from Hachijo exit site of Kyoto station.
