It's no secret that the Kampong Gelam district is one of our favourite spots in Singapore. Not only are there plenty of halal food options in the area, you can also find hidden gems like the Vintage Camera Museum! If you're rediscovering Singapore with your children this school holidays, good news! The Vintage Camera Museum is having an offer - with every 2 paying adults, you can bring one kid in for free ? (offer till 31 Dec 2020).

Over 1000 cameras on display, dating back to 19th century

If you've never thought of visiting the Vintage Camera Museum, perhaps now is a good time to do so! The museum has over 1000 cameras on display, some even dating back to the 19th century. Besides your usual handheld cameras, check out unique "artefacts" like a James Bond-like spy camera hidden in walking sticks and a rare machine-gun camera used by the Japanese during World War II ? Take a trip with your family down memory lane and explore beyond smartphone cameras and digital photos here.

P.S. Check out more exciting things to do in December 2020 in Singapore!

Pick up a vintage camera and try it out

Every camera comes from the personal collections of the 2 founders, making this place truly a labour of love. Unlike most museums where you're not allowed to touch the exhibits, you can pick up some vintage cameras here and strike a pose with them ? Even if you're not a camera enthusiast, the Vintage Camera Museum will pique your curiosity. For those with kids, it's great to let them learn a bit about the history of photography!

Besides the vintage cameras on display, there's also a section on historical photographs as well as a Click Art section where you can have fun and take perspective shots! For instance, you can pose with the 'living' paintings like this one where you can accept your very own Grammy award ?

Don't forget to snap a photo with the eclectic sculptures out on their front lawn too! Besides a sculpture of hands holding a camera, the entrance to the Vintage Camera Museum is actually a giant camera too.

While you’re at the Museum, make sure to snap a photo with this amazing mural on its exterior wall! Did you know that the mural was a collaboration between local Singaporean artist Ceno2 and budding Indonesian artists Kare and Bunga Fatia?

Near plenty of halal food options in Kampong Gelam

The best part about the Vintage Camera Museum is its convenient location. It's located right beside halal Southern Thai restaurant Koh Nangkam and just minutes way from Hjh Maimunah and Mother Dough Bakery! For more halal food options, check out our guide to halal cafes in Bugis.

Singapore might have many museums but the Vintage Camera Museum is definitely one spot where you can uncover something different. Film and camera enthusiasts will definitely excited to see the exhibits here, but even photography amateurs will find your attention 'captured' by the artefacts here ?
