Practically isolated and extremely peaceful. There's a waterfall where you can enter, after practising "Taki Gyou". If you are looking for calm and not over crowed places in Kyoto, this is one of then.

Would almost not want to post anything about this place because its seclusion is half the charm. A small Buddhist shrine can be found at the end of some stairs leading into the forest. Almost no one goes there because it's not so obvious. The autumn colours made it extra beautiful but I'm sure it's charming in any season. There is a small waterfall also and another tiny shrine hidden in a shallow cave.

Beautiful temple in the middle of a forest up a hill. It's unbelievably for the location and feels very magical.

This is a very nice small shrine that is about a 10 min walk from Nanzen-ji Temple. You can also access this shrine via the Kyoto trail that starts after Misasagi Station (Tozei line) but its difficult to navigate and is not an easy hike. Also its important to note that this is not the Okunoin Temple that is in Wakayama. Others have posted the Gokusho Offering Hall which lies near a row of statues. This is a different place with the same name. You will not see the line of statues here. But you can see the waterfall and other interesting shrines like the one in a cave. I would recommend to visit this shrine as a supplement to Nanzen-ji Temple.
