Fantastic museum for those who enjoy learning about history. I particularly enjoy the katana swords and the samurai armors among other great displays

Very good museum for international tourists. While getting a meal in the area can be a bit tricky (though I've seen a food cart or two there every day), there's plenty of fascinating exhibits. They're sure to warn you when you can't take photos, so just be a bit mindful about this when you first enter a hall. English-speakers should have a pretty easy time visiting the place. You can also get a ticket for both a special exhibit and the regular museum for a pretty reasonable price, and there's plenty of audio assistance options available in at least four languages (that I could see, anyhow).

Great museum shop for notable Japanese works on cards, stationery items and diaries. Lots of books as well.

If you want postcards, you should buy them here. You probably won't find any as pretty or reasonably priced anywhere else. Some were just under 100 yen.

I am fan of museums and after visiting many museums across many countries, I was a bit underwhelmed by the Tokyo National Museum. It is really not bad, in fact, quite good but I find museums in Korea and China were top notch. Like Tokyo Zoo, I was expecting something a little better because other places in Japan were so excellent.
