Japan, 〒600-8327 Kyoto, Shimogyo Ward, Nishinotoincho, 455 hotel tou nishinotoin kyoto
We started our 2025 visit to Japan with two nights here in Kyoto. This hotel was chosen for its combination of stylish interior design and being in a central location, within 15 minutes walking distance to Kyoto station. It delivered on both counts and more. We particularly appreciated the quality of the bar snacks - fantastic omelette - and the Japanese breakfast. The Royal Bath in the basement was ideal for a relaxing soak after a lot of walking. The beds are on the firm side but we slept well, aided by a choice of pillows. Overall our stay here was a great start to the trip and we’d definitely come back if we are in Kyoto again.
My husband and I just completed our stay at Hotel Tou and couldn't recommend it more! We opted for the superior queen, as Kyoto was the longest leg of our trip. The location is welcome balance of being a short walk to Kyoto station (good because the bus system here frowns upon large suitcases), but on a quieter street away from the city hustle and bustle. The staff were super friendly and accommodating, the room was spacious enough to fit 3 large suitcases (though we only had 2 opened for most of our stay), the rain showerhead was heavenly after a few hot days, and we liked the overall design of the space; we found the lighting options to be more than sufficient (not too dark), and the A/C worked great and kept our room like the ice box we desired. My only critique is that the room could use more electrical outlets.
We loved this hotel. We had two consequtive stays here, due to a one night stay in another town in the middle of our Kyoto trip. It was no problem at all to leave a suitcase with them overnight while we were away, which we very much appreciated. The rooms were clean and we really liked the design of this hotel. The rooms are a bit small (for 2 people with 2 suitcases), and the bathroom as well, but we didn’t mind as cleanliness and the general standard of the facilities is more important to us. The staff were very attentive and helpful. We had a few inconveniences during our first stay (check in machine, washing machine temporarily out of order) and they were so helpful with solving this. There seemed to always be one english speaking staff available, so we had no problems communicating. Tattoos were allowed in their grand bath (no need for tattoo stickers, not even for very lagre tattoos), this was a nice surprise. Breakfast was filling and tasty! We also put together a dinner with their smaller dinner dishes one night, and we particularly liked the omelet and potato curry. We found the airconditioning to be a bit difficult to adjust with regards to temperature, it was either a bit too cold or too hot. Their body wash, shampoo and conditioner smells very nice! Would absolutely stay here again.
This hotel exceeded expectations, offering an unbeatable location, immaculate cleanliness, and outstanding staff. The room was a welcome comfort after days of exploring. Housekeeping maintained a high standard throughout our stay, ensuring a perfectly restful environment that made for an ideal getaway. We highly recommend this hotel for anyone seeking a truly memorable trip to Kyoto.
Beautiful and clean ryokan hotel. Good housekeeping and well organized, lots of free toiletries and care items provided to guests. The location of the hotel is good, it’s approximately 15 minutes walk to train/subway station. The breakfast is traditional Japanese or western and they were able to accommodate those who are vegetarian. It would’ve been nice to have a little more storage area for our luggage in our room.
