Mozu Tombs

We went to the Mozu Tombs on a Monday. It was not busy at all however the Japanese Garden was closed. Very fascinating history in comparison to other places we have visited like the Great Pyramid of Giza. I understand why it is a World Heritage site after being there in person.

This place is a UNESCO World Heritage site. However, there is nothing much to do here but offer a prayer and pay respects. You can't explore the key-shaped tombs as it is off limits to visitors. Thankfully, there are local volunteers who are willing to explain the history of the place to you for free.

A UNESCO World Heritage site. No entrance allowed and there is not much to see from the outside. The surrounding trail (~2.8 km) is quite nice.

This place is recognized by UNESCO. You can only see the outside, but the cultural and historical value is priceless. The park surrounding the tombs are well maintained and this place is not very touristy, so no crowds. Each one of those islands is a tomb and the biggest/main belongs to emperor Nintoku, which is also mentioned in the Nihon Shoki. If you’re around Sakai, it definitely worth doing a picnic in the park or go to Cafe IROHA nearby.
