a nice park with old trains and unique display of art creation. we came at a right time where the weather was nice, not too hot, so it's become a very nice stroll along the park. from this hamasen park, we can ride tram to go between place of interest near the river

A “must visit” place especially if you enjoy trains, open markets and fun by the harbor. At certain times, artisans with a wide range of crafts along with multiple food trucks & stands line several areas. A refurbished dining car now serves as a great ice cream & coffee spot.

Hamasen Railway Cultural Park, located in Kaohsiung’s Gushan District, stands as a testament to Taiwan’s rich railway history. Originally the site of Kaohsiung Port Station—the city’s first railway station—the area has been thoughtfully transformed into a cultural and recreational space that appeals to both history enthusiasts and casual visitors.   The park features well-preserved railway tracks and an expansive green area, offering a serene environment for leisurely walks and family picnics. Visitors can explore decommissioned locomotives and carriages on open-air display, providing a tangible connection to the past. Interactive exhibits and sculptures further enrich the experience, making it both educational and engaging.  One of the park’s highlights is the Takao Railway Museum, housed within the former station building. This museum delves deeper into the history of Taiwan’s railways, showcasing artifacts and stories that bring the era of steam and diesel locomotives to life. 

Accidentally discovered this park on our way to Pier2. Cute old trains on display with a little mercato where you can buy food and other cute trinkets. You can try flying a kite too.

A lovely park near the pier. There’s a cafe and ice cream shop in old converted train carriages along with old leftover trains and railway tracks. Great place to go with families for picnics. Sometimes, there are food market style stalls and stalls selling artisanal handmade items too.
