My best wet market to go to. Take MTR and exit 2 at Dongmen Station. Turns right upon exit near traffic light and then walk straight. Market in first right lane and the opposite side. Just follow the local crowd. Must buy the meat balls. Open only on Sunday. I usually will buy as gifts. Everyone loves those huge meat balls in original, mushrooms, yam and spring onions varieties. But you need to go early to secure them. Run out by 11am.
If you had ever thought the night market is the only way to taste Taiwanese local food, that you are totally wrong. The Dongmen Market (東門市場) is a traditional market for locals to get living groceries in the morning. Besides, there are also hidden many delicious Taiwanese traditional foods around the street and alley. Make your trip more complete and pay a visit to the Dongmen market. Don't be afraid of wet floor and smells.Just be open-minded, explore, and experience a truly unique culture of Taiwanese. We came here on a rainy day, so the shopping time is quite limited. But I'm sure you will find out more exciting things here if you spent a longer time in good weather. Good food market. Great selection of Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean food. Even has Tibetan, burgers, and pasta. Be sure to find something that suits every palate and every budget.
The best pepper cake was sold here right at the entrance. It's a bun stuffed with black pepper seasoned ground pork and a handful of green scallions that is baked in a round clay (charcoal bottom) oven. Although there's always a long line, it moves quickly! It's definitely a must try for all foodies!!!
Bustling local market, with meats, seafood, fruit, snacks, and much more.
