4 Sagaosawacho, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, 616-8411, Japan
Just a few tourists and walked at ease on the wooden pathways around temples. We also walked around the pond and enjoyed the peaceful environment.
Really peaceful and lovely temple! To my surprise it also had a mini bamboo forest, a pond and so much more ❤️ Had to pay for tickets (less than 1500 yen) to get access to the pond area and the main halls. Would recommend this temple if you want to avoid crowds and still experience being in a bamboo forest ☺️
Daikaku-ji Temple is a peaceful escape in Kyoto, once an imperial villa with over 1,200 years of history. The stunning Osawa Pond is Japan’s oldest man-made pond. It adds to the serene vibe, and the temple’s architecture is impressive. Unlike busier spots, it’s calm and relaxing, perfect for a quiet stroll. Also you can try shakyo (sutra copying) for a unique cultural experience!
We went to this place on Sunday and we saw less than 10 people while we were there. Not overcrowded, beautiful, stunning and enjoyable. There’s a lot of areas that you can visit. I really recommend to come here in spring because you can see some blossoms and vibrant green trees. It takes you one hour to see all the spots. I’ll come here for sure on my next trip.
Beautiful temple with an incredibly calm atmosphere and different halls to check out. The pond area is quite big a absolutely beautiful - it also has a small bamboo forest. The entrance fee was 800 Yen and it's well worth it.
