We ordered the rice and curry, fried calamari and the special chicken house recipe. The dishes were absolutely delicious and we loved how the staff carefully introduced them to us. The restaurant has a great variety of options, which to a large part follow the owners’ family recipe. As we learned, three of the dishes which they offer at the restaurant can only be tasted there, as they are unique to their family history. We can highly recommend it!

This lives up to it's reputation. We didn't do the cook school. But we wish we had. The food tastes so nice. I loved my box chicken (chicken in pandan leaves). I was concerned that rice and chicken wouldn't be enough flavours for me. But they were. I absolutely loved my dish. The rice and curry was great too. Lots of different flavours in the 4 curries. That's without mentioning the staff. Lovely home cooking. Great people to chat to. They deserve all the success after having to rebuild post Tsunami. Don't miss out on this hidden gem.

Looking for authentic Sri Lankan food we were delighted to find Wasantha’s. A chilled atmosphere with lovely people. We had the cashew curry & a vegetarian curry. Both were absolutely delicious & one of the best curries we have eaten on a month’s tour of Sri Lanka. The cook & owner shared the recipes with us, but I doubt we could ever re-create her expertise! If you want a traditional experience do not hesitate to visit this gem of a restaurant. ??❤️

Wow. We visited here this evening and was blown away. Our food was absolutely delicious! Pure local Sri Lankan food from the heart. The speciality avocado curry was THE best curry I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying. My partner ordered Prawn curry with coconut milk rice and was hugely impressed - really top tier. Chef of the restaurant ‘Wasantha’ took time and care to prepare our meals to perfection. She also came to our table to welcome us and talked us through the history of the restaurant, a very kind soul and Unawatuna should be proud to have such a local legend in the area. Cannot recommend this place high enough, utterly unbelievable. A++

My partner and I did Wasantha’s cooking course during our stay in Unawatuna. It was absolutely fantastic - getting to visit Galle’s market to buy the curry ingredients that we then cooked (beetroot, pineapple, okra, pumpkin and aubergine dishes) was a real treat and then cooking with Wasantha herself was both fun and insightful. She has such a brilliant understanding of Sri Lankan cuisine and we took home various tips! Her team are also really friendly! All in all a fantastic experience, especially if you’re into Sri Lankan / Asian cooking.
