Highly recommended! We came here for dinner and my only frustration is that we didn’t discover this place earlier! Food here is so great, you can feel that owners care about it. For example, Tom yum is the best in the area: huge portion + rice + crab (unlike places on the beach). The seafood curry was made not hot based on our request. Grilled prawns were marinated in a delicious sauce and came with fresh banana chips (for a change!). We travelled half of the island and here we’ve had the best Sri Lankan dishes. Also i liked the vibe: quiet modern music, open space with super tall roof, surrounded by jungle, best place to hide from the monsoons. Thank you ?
We just finished our cooking class and it exceeded our expectations. The experience was perfect from start to finish. Our host, Suthanti took us to the fish and vegetable market, we got to choose our food and the dishes we wanted to make, everything was 1 on 1 so we got the chance to learn the details, and cooking in her kitchen amongst the trees was divine. The dishes were simple to make and packed full of flavour. You also get the recipes so you can make them all again at home. We loved everything about the experience and would recommend it to everyone visiting Unawatuna and down South. Thank you Susthanti ?
The best curry we have ever had (we have spent 2 weeks in Sri Lanka and India!) and in the top 5 meals I've ever had! We had the mother and daughter curry -being daughter and mother! We want to recommend her to the UK Saturday Morning Kitchen! The lovely Lady and her family who run the cookery school and restaurant were all so friendly! She came over to chat to us about how the curries are made and which ingredients to use and has very kindly sent us some recipes to try at home! Our only regret is we did not find the place before our last night, then we could have also had a cooking class! Gorgeous setting and layout and chill vibes! Do NOT miss this gem if you're visiting Unawatuna! ?? Becky and Ruth (visited on the 17/03)
Loved the cooking class! One of my best experiences in Sri Lanka. Not only could we visit the food market together and choose what we wanted to cook, but also my vegetarian diet wasn't any problem. Cooking was super fast and the result was delicious. We also had a little adventure with a monkey stealing our coconut.
I attended the cooking class in January 2025 and highly recommend it. It was very well organized and included a visit to the local market to buy ingredients, where I received a helpful explanation on how to identify fresh, high-quality produce. The class itself was excellent, and I also appreciated the pleasant setting on the edge of a forest. At the end, you’ll receive detailed recipes so you can cook the dishes at home as well.
