So you've made halal butterbeer from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and churros from Disneyland. Now what? ? Well, let us introduce you to the next yummy treat that'll be perfect to satisfy your sweet tooth - Ben & Jerry's edible chocolate chip cookie dough! They've recently shared the recipe to this delightful dessert and with only 7 ingredients needed, you simply can't pass up the chance of making it yourself.
Before we dive into the recipe, you might be wondering: Can I eat raw cookie dough? The short answer is yes, you can! You just need to remember two important things while making it: 1) It should be an eggless cookie dough, and 2) The flour should be heat-treated (Don't worry, it's much simpler than it sounds. You'll find out more in the recipe below).
We've swapped the vanilla extract from Ben & Jerry's original recipe with vanilla essence to make it an alcohol-free version, but the taste shouldn't be all that different. Now, let's get on with this halal edible chocolate chip cookie dough recipe! ?
Ingredients (yields 2 cups)
- 1 cup flour
- 8 tbsp unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla essence
- ½ cup chocolate chips
Directions
- First, heat-treat the flour. Simply place the flour in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high in 30 second-intervals, stirring in between. Using an instant-read thermometer, make sure the flour hits 73°C throughout. Alternatively, you can also follow Preppy Kitchen's method of heat-treating the flour in the video below:
- With a stand or hand mixer, beat butter and sugar until it becomes light and fluffy.
- Add vanilla essence, cream and salt and mix everything together. Then add the heat treated flour and incorporate thoroughly.
- Toss in the chocolate chips and fold into the dough.
- Serve and enjoy! Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
And that's it! With such a super simple and delicious recipe, you'll be making this edible chocolate chip cookie dough over and over again ?
