If you need another reason to plan a road trip to this charming Malaysian state, here's one for you!
Situated in the fishing village of Teluk Bahang, meet some adorable furry friends at Cat Beach Sanctuary! Part of a local non-profit organisation called Cat Lovers International Society, this sanctuary aims to improve the welfare of the cats in Penang and provide rescued cats with a place to stay and be cared for.
If you're wondering why this sanctuary has a beachside location, that's because the local fishermen have been caring for stray cats for many decades. On top of that, the Penang state government implemented a Zero Strays Policy in 2014 and the sanctuary provides a safe shelter for rescued and homeless strays in Penang. Currently, the Cat Beach Sanctuary is home to over 300 cats and kittens that are looking for their forever homes!
If you're planning to do good during your trip to Penang, Cat Beach Sanctuary accepts volunteers! Besides helping the staff with cleaning, admin and cat care, you can also enjoy some cute cuddles from the adorable cats at the sanctuary. Who knows, you might bring home a new best friend too because adoption is free!
