14 best halal food in Melaka

1. Asam Pedas Claypot Laksamana

What’s a better way to start your Melaka food trip than having this delicious fiery and sour local dish for lunch? Asam pedas is a dish made of chilli paste, spices and tamarind juice, seasoned to perfection to create a dish that has a delicate balance of sweet, sour and salty. Served in clay pots to retain its freshness and heat, Asam Pedas Claypot Laksamana is a popular asam pedas destination, even among the locals because of its thick and spicy gravy (Melakans love their chillies!).

#HHWT Tip: The most popular dish would be asam pedas ikan pari (sting-ray) and asam pedas daging tetel (beef shanks).

2. Kuih Keria Antarabangsa Haji Jalil Limbongan

Kuih keria is definitely a must-try if you're in Melaka! It's a traditional doughnut-shaped Malay kuih made from flour and sweet potatoes, which are then fried and glazed with sugar. What’s different about Kuih Keria Antarabangsa is that they use palm sugar syrup (gula Melaka) to make the glaze - a clever way that adds more taste as compared to the conventional kuih keria. The stall has grown so successful that earlier this year it moved to a proper shop lot. Queues can still be pretty long though, so be sure to have lots of patience. Trust us, you won’t regret the wait!
