Sabah is home to many nature getaways, laid-back towns, and friendly smiles. Besides visiting its capital city, Kota Kinabalu, Kundasang is steadily becoming a popular spot for day trips among travellers. With serene valleys and lush nature, some travellers go as far as calling it the 'Scotland of Borneo'. While escaping the city life is easy with our 3D2N Sabah itinerary, there's a brand new glamping spot in Kundasang that's worth a visit!

Opened in September 2019, Umea Glam Kundasang was an idea brought together by four business partners: Irwin bin Mohamad, Yusri Manaff, Redzuan Sapin and Rayner Roy Antis. It was their frequent trips to Kundasang, a popular town in Sabah, that inspired them to build a glamping spot that’s perfect for weekend family getaways. Surrounded by a sweeping view of the valley, it became clear that Kundasang is where the heart is.

Named after a city in eastern Sweden, Umea Glam Kundasang has four domes for guests to spend the night. While the founders took only three days to build each dome, they needed a few weeks to furnish them! You can tell why from the unique designs you're about to see when you step into each dome.

Narvik

If you’ve travelled to Norway, you might find this name familiar! The first dome, Narvik is named after a city famous for skiing and mountaineering. With a Mandala tapestry rug as its centerpiece, the dome is decorated with carpets so you can relax or your kids can play in various spots.

Decked out with wooden floors and dark furniture, it has two mattresses complete with a Japanese-style dining space and a lounge area. Since the dome is pretty spacious, you can request for an extra mattress (with additional fee) if you're travelling in a group.

The name of its second dome, Abisko, is named after a popular transit station in northern Sweden. Decorated with geometric prints and abstract paintings to add a pop of colour to the living space, it's a lovely dome for a girl's getaway or weekend staycation.

Besides having two single beds, it also has comfy chairs and a bean bag that lets you enjoy the view from your dome. A dream for any city slickers, imagine drawing the curtains to see a view of the valley right before your eyes!

There are also two other domes to choose from. The modern Kiruna dome has a queen-sized bed whereas the bohemian Gallivare dome has two single mattresses. If you’re planning a cook-out with friends, you can rent a portable stove (RM25) or barbecue pit (RM35). Having a barbecue feast under a starry sky is a good way to enjoy the evening!
