More of a park and less of a temple. This is a large sprawling complex/park that is rarely visited (compared to the Temple of Heaven). It is square in shape (symbolizing the earth) and structures are mostly to the ground. But if you're looking for some peace and quiet, have a picnic, and take a breath while visiting a few shrines and old sacrificial grounds, it's worth stopping by.

I recommend coming here in the fall when the leaves are changing colour, it's breathtaking! This park has a lot of interesting and fun things to see. You'll see people singing, playing instruments, doing taiji... it's really a fun place to see if you have time!

We visited Ditan Park for the 2024 Beijing Book Fair, held from September 13 to September 23. Normally, the park requires an entrance ticket, but admission was free during the book fair, making it a perfect time to explore Ditan. The park is stunning, with its iconic red walls and a backdrop of lush green willows. Publishers from all over the country had set up stands selling books and unique souvenirs. There were also plenty of snack vendors and shaded spots to relax and grab a quick refreshment. One highlight for me was the Ditan-themed ice cream popsicle—it was beautifully crafted and a delightful treat! Ditan Park is also just a short walk from a vibrant Hutong neighborhood, where you can explore a variety of excellent coffee shops and bars. Highly recommend visiting, especially during special events like the book fair!

This is more of a park for the locals than a historical site. I give it five stars because it's a nice park, but for tourists, my opinion is you don't need to include this in your itinerary, unless you happen to be around this area and have nothing to do. The Temple of Heaven is much more interesting for a tourist.
