TofukuJi Temple, worth the visit if you can get the timing right to see the autumn leafs. The facility is small and can be easily walked in 30 minutes. Some may not think its worth it, but I loved seeing the autumn leaves here. The colours are vibrant and really grab your attention. The bridge gives an amazing opportunity to get a photo with autumn leafs in the background.

Famous for its beautiful fall foliage. The line was a bit long when we arrive and it took about 30-45 mins before we were able to get inside but it was worth it. It was filled with lovely hues of red and gold. There were a lot of people but there were also a lot of trees and space to go around. You may also enter some of the temples for an additional fee.

Very beautiful grounds with multiple huge temples and tori gates. I went very early in the morning, so it wasn't very busy, but i imagine it fills up later in the day. It was a nice break from the busy streets of Kyoto. It was a great to place to visit if you're looking for some nice photographs.

Tofuku-ji Temple in Kyoto is one of those places that quietly steals your heart. One of the highlights of this temple complex is the Tsutenkyo Bridge, which gracefully stretches over a lush ravine. When I visited, it was winter—bare trees framed the path, revealing the architectural elegance of the bridge and the natural flow of the landscape. The stone steps leading up through the moss-covered slopes added a sense of mystery and timelessness. Even without the autumn foliage that Tofuku-ji is famous for, the scenery was absolutely captivating. The minimalism of winter actually allowed me to notice the details—the aged wood of the bridge, the subtle design of the fences, the gentle sounds of wind rustling through the trees. It’s easy to get lost in the moment here. Every step felt like part of a meditative journey. The gravel paths, the winding walkways, and the traditional gate structures all contribute to an immersive cultural experience. Tofuku-ji is just a few minutes from Tofukuji Station, making it a convenient stop during a Kyoto visit. Yet it still feels like a world apart—quiet, sacred, and untouched by time. Highly recommended for those who want to explore a quieter, spiritual side of Kyoto. (Late post, but the memory still feels fresh.)

What a great way to spend a day. Relaxing and not crowded even though it’s only one station from Kyoto station. I’ll be coming back in a few months. I’ll be back with family and friends it was that nice. Pictures don’t do it justice. You just have to experience it all yourself. I’ll be avoiding this place as the colors change but will definitely be back as time permits. Thank you @tabieats for mentioning this in your recommendation. This one was excellent.
