Taronga Zoo, located on the shores of Sydney Harbour, is one of the most iconic and well-maintained zoos in Australia. From the moment you enter, the zoo offers a blend of natural beauty, modern enclosures, and an educational experience that’s enjoyable for visitors of all ages. One of the standout features of Taronga Zoo is its breathtaking location. With panoramic views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, it’s hard to find a more scenic place to explore wildlife. The zoo houses over 4,000 animals, including native Australian species like kangaroos, koalas, and platypuses, as well as exotic animals such as elephants, lions, and giraffes. The layout of the zoo is well thought out, with themed sections and walking paths that make it easy to navigate. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the animal talks and shows add a fun, interactive element to the visit. The seal show, in particular, is a must-see. Families will appreciate the kid-friendly areas, including the petting zoo and playgrounds. There are also plenty of cafes and picnic spots throughout the park. Though ticket prices are on the higher side, the experience is worth it. Taronga Zoo is not just a place to see animals—it’s a place to connect with wildlife and learn about conservation. A truly memorable day out.
Taronga Zoo has one of the most breathtaking views of Sydney Harbour, especially from the giraffe and zebra enclosures, making it a standout attraction for both locals and tourists. The zoo's layout offers a pleasant walking experience, though it's worth noting that the terrain is quite hilly. Families with young children or those using strollers might find certain areas challenging, so wearing comfortable footwear is advisable. Animal enclosures are spacious and well-maintained. It however seems to have a limited variety of species compared to other major zoos, though it makes a great option for an wildlife intro the young ones. The zoo's amenities are clean and conveniently located throughout the grounds. Food outlets offer a decent selection, but prices tend to be on the higher side, which is typical for a tourist spot. Would recommend packing your own food as they're many picnic area available. Don't miss the Seal Show and the Free Flight Bird Show - very entertaining. Allow for three hours to leisurely explore the zoo. While there's a paid car park available, street parking is available within walking distance.
This is by far the best zoo we have ever visited. We entered the zoo at 10am and left only 4pm. So many types of animals you can find in this zoo. The zoo keeper talk is interesting too. The bird show is one of the best among the shows. Also you can see the backdrop of Harbour Bridge and Opera House from this zoo. This is a must visit place if you are in Sydney.
Taronga Zoo is one of the best experiences in Sydney! The walking paths are scenic and well-designed, making it easy to explore at your own pace. The views over Sydney Harbour are absolutely breathtaking and add something special to the day. The animals are incredible to see up close, and the whole place is clean, well-run, and family-friendly. A fantastic day out with nature, wildlife, and amazing views — highly recommended!
A zoo with a view. A modern zoo with animals big and small. The ferry ride set the mood, would recommend it all all. Remember to grab a map !!! The sea show was a family favourite. If you have an interstate zoo membership, head to the main entrance at the top of the hill (bus stop just outside the ferry terminal) and pop into the zoo friends office to get entrance ticket.
