My family and I come to the Newington Armory all the time and it's a great spot. Basically a FREE children's theme park with great views and tons to explore as adults. We love creating content there too. Love it! July 2021: Love all the military base buildings and more too!

Put the kids on bikes or scooters and take them through Newington Armory. We had a great time wandering around looking at the buildings and seeing what we could see. Take your time going through here and make sure you have water bottles and use toilet facilities beforehand... especially the kids!

I love history so I was wrapped when I found this place! RAN old armoury facility. Old rail lines go in and out to the nearby Wharf where the armoury used to be loaded onto the navy boats on the parramatta river. Wonderful to see the old buildings where the ammunition was stored. Park your car for free nearby and bring your bike! Bring your lunch and drink too unless you want to go to the kiosk or restaurant which is only Open on weekends and busy times. There are plenty of places to ride your bike from here too

We had the privilege of talking to Dr John from the facility who is a very good resource person as well very approachable and friendly. Highly recommended for anyone who would like to know about the ancestral original of the land.

A Fascinating Place to Explore on Foot Visited Newington Armory, and we really enjoyed just walking around and taking in the history. We followed the old rail lines and checked out the little depots along the way, which gave us a great sense of how the place once operated. The different buildings, the brickwork, and the overall atmosphere made it a really interesting place to wander through. We noticed you could hire bicycles, but to be honest, the prices seemed a bit steep—especially for families who want to make a day of it. It feels a little unfair, considering it’s meant to be an accessible outdoor space. That said, we were happy just exploring on foot, and it was a great way to spend a few hours. If you enjoy history, old architecture, and a peaceful walk by the river, Newington Armory is definitely worth a visit!
