This medieval castle is one of the more popular excursion goals in our canton. We continued our castle tour in the canton a beautiful March day of 2025. This was the first time in over 30 years that I have been back here to see what had changed. You can come her by public transportation including one of the CGN boats or by car. There is a free three hour parking along the main road between Montreux and Villeneuve. To know what you are visiting I strongly recommend you to rent the electronic guide of the historical museum inside the castle. There are lots of shooting angles for those interested in photography. Tips: a really wide angle shift lens is the best you can chose.

I especially enjoyed the underground vaults and the chapel with its delicate 14th-century frescoes. The audio guide was very helpful, offering fascinating insights without overwhelming detail. Whether you’re a history lover, architecture enthusiast, or just looking for an unforgettable experience in Switzerland, Chillon Castle is an absolute must. It’s not just a visit—it’s a journey through time.

An absolute highlight! Chillon Castle rising from Lake Geneva is a breathtaking sight. Inside, it gets even better: dark dungeons, hidden passages, and grand halls bring centuries of history to life. From dukes to prisoners, every corner tells a story. A visit that truly sticks with you!

Just over 1 hr by train from Geneva. No need to take a tour bus. Make sure you chose train that stops at Castle and it's a 5 min walk via path. Wonderful medieval castle with amazing water views and view of the alps. Plan on 2-2.5 hours to see the castle and photograph from various angles.

A wonderful old building with great history, a great effort to restore as best as possible to its original design and construction. We had a good guide but sadly I cannot speak the language she was talking in. We were with a package tour group so had a specific appointment time. I appreciated the timbers and construction styles and wonderful stonework.
