As Ramadan is fast approaching (it starts on 23 April!), we're entering the phase of planning and researching for ways to spruce up our home for Raya, easy 15-minute recipes that we can pull together for sahur, and other essentials we need.

In Malaysia, the current movement control order has made it tricky to prepare for our Raya needs. That includes shopping for new kitchen appliances, furniture, and Raya clothes that we're accustomed to doing in person at a physical store. Since it's important to stay indoors and practise social distancing to flatten the curve of COVID-19, let's make the best of our situation by shopping online. 8. Onking

You won't be able to visit an Onking store with the current movement control order, but they have a neat website that lets you shop online. Browse the 'home appliances' category to discover a wide range of products such as air purifier, washing machine, dryer, refrigerator and more. Onking also sells LED televisions and home theatre systems at different price points, so you can find the one that suits your budget.

9. HLK Chain-Store

If you need brand new home appliances before Raya begins, HLK Chain-Store specialises in electrical appliances. Whether you need a washing machine, dryer, ceiling fan or water heater, you might be able to find the things you need at their online website. Another good thing about shopping at HLK Chain-Store is that all of the items are tax-free.

10. senQ

One of the largest electronics chain stores in Malaysia, shopping at senQ will be a breeze. Apart from home entertainment and kitchen appliances, senQ also offers a variety of home and electrical appliances on their website. Vacuum cleaners, water heaters, washing machines, stand fans and more can be found on their online store. They also offer free delivery with minimum spending of RM100 in a single order.

Food and baking goods

11. MYDIN Malaysia

MYDIN Malaysia has an online store primarily serviced by select outlets in Klang Valley which offer delivery or pick-up (i.e. you order online and pick-up your order at the store). For delivery, it currently caters to select areas according to postcodes in Subang Jaya, Puchong, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Kota Damansara and Damansara Perdana (you can check their website for the full list of postcodes). Deliveries have a flat rate charge of RM10.

For pick-up, based on checks this is currently only available at the USJ outlet. You have the option of picking up your groceries at the designated counter in the store or at their Klik & Pick lockers.  In addition to browsing online on their website they also have an app (available on Android and Apple) for their online store services.

Since the movement control order, MYDIN Malaysia has been experiencing a high volume of traffic on their website. If you can't access their online store, you can shop through other channels such as Shopee and PGMall.

12. Tesco

Tesco has announced a restriction of only 3 items per customer on every product line for online customers. A higher number of product substitutions may also happen, given the upsurge in demand.

Tesco has an online store that offers delivery to select areas in Klang Valley, Penang, Seremban and Johor Bahru. You can check on their website here to find out if your area is covered. Do note that payment is upon delivery at the door via credit or debit card (Visa or Master), with no cash payment allowed. Delivery charges may vary according to location as well as a time slot. In light of the Covid-19 situation, Tesco also recently announced some precautionary measures for their delivery service. In addition to the online store on their website, they also have an app (available on Android and Apple) for their online store services.

Delivery update: Online store and delivery available for select areas in Klang Valley, Penang, Seremban and Johor Bahru. Do note that a number of our readers have shared that currently, no delivery slots are available until next month.

13. HappyFresh

HappyFresh does grocery deliveries from a variety of major supermarkets including Giant, Aeon, Cold Storage, MYDIN and more. You can choose from available retailers depending on your location, shop online, and have the groceries delivered to you in as little as an hour (on usual days!). HappyFresh continues to supply online purchases and deliveries during this time, but do note that delivery slots are limited at the moment, so do expect to wait a bit longer within the next couple of weeks.

There's usually a minimum order amount of RM50,  though this may differ according to which retailer you're shopping from. In addition to their website they also have an app (available on Android and Apple).

Raya clothes

We won't be able to step into a Kamdar store for the time being, but we can definitely shop for their Raya clothes online. Check out this year's Raya collection that includes kurung Pahang, kurung modern, and songket kebaya for the ladies as well as baju melayu cekak musang for the gents. Besides that, Kamdar also sells fabrics (ranging from jacquard to printed cotton), ready-made curtains, cushion covers, duvets, and more.
