The long weekend is finally here! Even with the National Day Parade being delayed to 21st August, and most processions being halted, from 7th of August to 10th of August, Singapore is celebrating National Day with a public holiday ? If you're wondering what to do over the long weekend, HHWT has compiled a list of things to do over the long National Day weekend with your family and friends! (Although don't forget to stick to the Phase 2 restrictions!)

Things To Do On National Day

1. Take IG-Worthy Pictures At Singapore's Highlights

Why not celebrate National Day by visiting some of Singapore's more popular or famous spots? Dress up in your best casual outfit, grab a friend (or a tripod!) and show off your #ootds! What could be a better way to show off some Singapore pride than with a picture of Singapore's beauties?

You could visit Gardens By The Bay for a picture among the flowers, or head over to the underrated and picturesque Japanese Cemetery. Not only would you get some attention-grabbing pictures while you explore your country, you might learn a little bit about our history, too!

P.S. Check out these 8 awesome things to do in August 2021 too.

2. Enjoy National Day Sales

Many of us Singaporeans love to shop - and I think it's pretty obvious, what with Tampines having 4 malls within the same area. And what could be a better way for shopaholics to celebrate a National event than with National Day Sales? ?

Shopee has an 8/8 National Day sale that includes one for one deals, free gifts, and even lobangs for you to take advantage of! From 5-7 August, Harvey Norman, North Face and Samsung are having sales as well! You wouldn't want to miss lower prices, so check it out here! The best part? Much of this shopping can be done online! So you can lay in bed and buy your favourite products anytime without having to get out and face large crowds ?

3. Visit Sentosa With A Friend!

If you're looking to have a more thrilling time this National Day weekend, try visiting Sentosa! Your favourite Sentosa attractions have slashed their prices to celebrate Singapore's 56th birthday for you to enjoy your long weekend with them ?

Grab a friend and boost your adrenaline at Universal Studios Singapore at prices, or immerse yourselves in the beauty of the world's marine life at sea world - all for only $56!

4. Have Fun With Your Family At Singapore Discovery Centre

To celebrate Singapore's 56th birthday, Singapore Discovery Centre has a variety of programmes for you to enjoy! They have activities for you to enjoy both from the comfort of your homes, or at the centre itself. Take part in their digital exhibition or engage in family-friendly activities like creating your own stickers, enjoy thematic guided tours of their exhibits, or even watch screenings of Singapore Films at the iWerks Theatre ?

The best part? Admission is free! All you have to do is book a spot for yourself for one of the activities, or walk-in to the location. Do note that the availability for walk-in is subject to safe management measures.

5. Heritage & Culture Light Up Trail

For National Day, seven of Singapore's civic, cultural and historic buildings in the Bras Basah-Bugis area will be decorated with fluorescent red and white lights as part of the annual National Day light up! Singapore's very own National Museum at Stamford Road, along with art venues like Objectifs and National Design Centre will also be the scene of the gorgeous light shows put up for display.

Admission is free! All you have to do is grab some comfy walking shoes, a good friend, and get to enjoying the spectacle that is the annual Light Up Trail!

6. Learn More About Singapore

You may also want to spend your day learning more about Singapore's history from the 1950s to the present via this digital experience! Step into 'Home, Truly: A Digital Experience', where you will join nine-year-old Nadine and her beloved grandfather as they talk about growing up in Singapore.

You'll get to discover lesser-known facts and quirks about Singapore and discover the memories, spaces and experiences of our elders and ancestors! And it's not just a documentary or video - there are games, quizzes, illustrations from local artists and archival photos and videos that you get to thumb through. They even talk about National Day Parades throughout the years!

7. Order In - Deliveries & Takeaways

After a long day of exciting NDP celebrations, or if you decide not to head out at all, you can always order food in!

There are a whole lot of deliveries and takeaways that you can choose from, and if you're not sure where to choose from, or want something new, check these out!

So if you're wondering what to do over the weekend, you no longer have to worry ? With HHWT's list, all you have to do is share this with a friend and head out!
