During the September school holidays last week, my family and I decided to return to Kranji countryside again after finding out that Mud Krank recently opened at Gallop Kranji Farm Resort. We wanted to make a conscious effort to make our kids' holidays more enriching and exciting rather than watching hours of Netflix and doing assessment books. We also wanted to go off the beaten track from our usual haunts of going to the Shopping Malls and also engaging in money-wasting activities like playing Arcades.

Note: Good News for Public Transport Visitors, w.e.f 11 September 2021, there is a RushOwl On-Demand Bus that takes you from Kranji MRT to Kranji Countryside.

Mud Krank at Gallop Kranji Farm Resort

WOW!! Finally, there’s something which parents of younger kids certainly can get excited about, especially for those who like adrenaline-pumping rides and outdoor rough & dirt activities! The good news is… Mud Krank is the first and only ATV adventure park in Singapore and has 4X4 ATV rides for kids as young as 4 years old to 12 years old up to a maximum of 50kg, and, there is no height limit! YAY!!

What?? For Kids only?? – Hold your horses, Adults… Mud Krank will be bringing in ATVs for Adults this coming October and on a different terrain too. So, wait for it!!

It is a 15 minutes session for $20 on weekdays and $25 on weekends. If you have a group of 5 kids, Mud Krank can arrange a 1-hour personal session for $388. Do book online for your sessions and take note that they are closed on Mondays.

Before the Kids get all cranking with the ATVs, they will be briefed on the safety rules and regulations, how to operate the ATVs and checked that they are all properly geared up with covered shoes, helmets, elbow and knee guards. You can also opt to bring your own protective gear, a set of extra clothes and also footwear if it gets too muddy after the rides.

All Smiles and Raring to Go!! We thought that 15 minutes may be short of an adrenaline pump for the Boys, but they reviewed that they were happy with the timing as they got to go for a good few rounds in the current terrain and had enough of mud action for the day!

It is pretty easy for them to manoeuvre the ATVs on the mild rocky terrain, but we sure would love more humps and mudholes so they can go all out thrusting in the mud and a chance for them to get out from their OCD comfort zone of keeping their shoes and feet clean.

There is a wash-up area too to clean up all the dirt and mud and do bring bags to keep the dirty socks and shoes.

It was a resounding YES from the Boys when we asked if they want to ride on the ATV again, and next time, we will rope in their cousins as well to do a Group Session for 1 full hour!

555 Halal Thai

After spending the entire day out in Kranji, we can now worry less about where to get Halal food as we know there’s 555 Halal Thai located at Gallop Kranji Farm Resort to fall back on. Just nice, after the ATV rides, the Restaurant opened for their weekday dinner timing from 5pm to 10pm. They also open from 12 to 2pm for weekday lunch timing.

Although there is ample seating around the Restaurant, making reservations are recommended especially on weekends and please refer to their Instagram on the operating hours and they are closed on every first Monday of the month.

It’s not just the great food from 555 Halal Thai which we are attracted to, but the Instagrammable worthy décor, fairy lights at night and ambience that makes the dining experience there more beautiful and dreamy.

We were recommended to try their Chuci Prawn and the taste is very close to our Malay style Lemak Cili Padi, but theirs is a creamier version and we LOVE IT! The well-cooked prawns are big & fresh and although the gravy is a little spicy for the Boys, they still get to enjoy the Prawns after peeling them.

Their menu is well thought out with food items suitable for the Kids like Thai Grilled Chicken, Pineapple Fried Rice, Snacks of Cheese Fries, Cuttlefish Balls and Deep Fried Chicken Skin too.

We do know that the next time we are back at 555 Halal Thai, we will want to order their Royal Feast for a Group of 5, which is currently having an ongoing promotion for $99 that comes with a fresh selection of premium seafood of crabs, prawns, scallops, abalone and cooked in a rich Tom Yum broth. Drools.

FYI - The drinks stall are separately operated, so you will need to order the drinks directly from the Drinks Bar and make payment there too.

Other things you can do at Gallop Kranji Farm Resort

Interestingly, there are more activities you can do to spend your time away at the Gallop Kranji Farm Resort.

There’s Nelly’s Prawning where you can test your Prawning Skills for $20/hour, there are colourful Swings for the Kids to release their boredom while waiting for the food to be prepared, there’s a small Café where you can stock up on your Old School Retro Biscuits, We Care Mini Animal Farm which is currently closed but you can still hear the loud squawking of the birds.

And if you decide to stay overnight in Kranji, there’s Glamping which you can also have a Campfire BBQ just like during your old school campfire days. Nostalgic!

Sungei Buloh, Kranji Marshes, Hay Dairies Goat Farm and Bollywood Veggies

Travelling all the way from Punggol to Kranji, it is mandatory to do a nature trek to Sungei Buloh where we get to take in the sights and different sounds of nature from the crickets, frogs and cicadas.

It is also a Living Classroom for the Kids learning about the rich biodiversity of the wetland reserves, mangroves and wildlife.

Their favourite activity in Sungei Buloh is to play a game of ‘Who Can Spot What First’ where they have spotted Wildlife like the Crocodiles, Komodo Dragons, Monkeys, Oriental Whip Snake, Green Crested Lizard, Mudskippers, White-Bellied Eagle, Herons, Water Spiders and much, much more.

There is also a time for a quick riddle by the Kids where they asked us “What key opens a Banana?”

Answer: At the end of the article ?

We were lucky to make acquaintances with experienced nature and bird enthusiasts where they will tell us where to spot the wildlife, about the migratory birds flying in from the Arctic to escape winter cold from September to March and dinner time of the eagle where we watched it swooped down to catch its prey.

There is also a Junior Adventure Trail for the Kids to let out their inner Ninja Warrior. Water Coolers, Drinks and Snacks Dispensers are also available nearby the Restrooms at both the Visitor Centre and Research & Development Centre. Operating hours are from 7am to 7pm.

Please note that a section of the Coastal Trail will be closed from 16 August 2021 to 31 March 2022 for maintenance.

Kranji Marshes is also open from 7am to 7pm but please be careful as there are Wild Boars spotted at the marshes.

If you have more time to spend at the Kranji Countryside, make a trip down to Hay Dairies Goat Farm where you can feed the Goats and also purchase some Goat Milk to quench off your thirst from the sunny, sweltering hot weather.

We like going to Bollywood Veggies not just to learn that they have their own Sugarcane plantation, Bollywood Bhanchha and Food Museum and Poison Ivy Bistro, but also to buy chemical-free fruits and seasonal produce of leafy greens, eggs and fish. They do not open daily, so it’s best to check their opening hours from their website before making a trip to their farm.

There sure are a myriad of activities, nature treks and farms you can visit at the Kranji Countryside with your family and friends.

So, start planning away for your own adventure in Kranji!!

Answer to the Riddle: Monkey (No prizes for those who get it right ?)
