Samyang is a popular South Korean food brand most known for its vast array of instant noodles, especially its spicy buldak ramen that went viral when people started doing the fire noodles challenge on social media. Because of its popularity, many of our readers have often asked us is Samyang halal? Or they ask about specific products like the buldak ramen, Samyang topokki, kimchi ramen, Samyang nuclear or Samyang Jjajang. We're here to set the record straight once and for all!

P.S.Satisfy your late night cravings with these 18 halal Korean instant noodles in Malaysia and Singapore!

So are Samyang Noodles halal?

The answer is that some but not all of their products are halal-certified. Samyang has a select range of its instant noodles which have been certified halal by the Korea Muslim Federation (KMF) Halal Committee. The products which are halal-certified are produced in designated production lines within a specific factory and have the Korea Muslim Federation's halal logo printed on its packaging. The KMF Halal Committee certification is recognised by halal certification bodies in Malaysia (i.e. JAKIM) and Singapore (i.e. MUIS). It is not, however, recognised by the Majlis Ulama Indonesia (MUI). Instead, for Indonesia, Samyang has select products which have been certified directly by MUI - namely four of its buldak ramen products: the original, cheese, Extra Hot Spicy and carbonara flavours. For these products, you can find those with the MUI halal logo printed on the packaging.

Which products are halal-certified?

Based on this source from 2017, there are 23 Samyang products which have been certified by KMF, though we note that this number may have changed since then, especially taking into account limited-edition flavours that come and go. We've compiled a list based on what we've found in supermarkets locally and also online (listed out below!). Do note that even though specific products may have halal versions, not all of the noodles produced for that product line may be halal-certified (as only those produced in designated production lines of their Wonju factory are certified).

So when purchasing, be sure to get the ones which have the halal-certified logo printed on the packaging, as it would have been produced in a specified production environment separate from their non-halal products. It's interesting to note that the halal-certified products made by Samyang have all been produced in South Korea for export purposes only, meaning that it's difficult to find them in South Korea itself! Recently there have been more calls and requests for Samyang to sell their halal-certified products domestically, but as far as we're aware it's still easier to get them off the shelves at supermarkets here in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.

Where can I find halal Samyang products?

Wondering where you can pick up halal Samyang products? Nowadays you can easily pick them at most major supermarkets in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia! The most popular buldak ramen products (such as the original, cheese, carbo and other flavours) are typically available on supermarket shelves, as well as other select key products. For the flavours that are harder to find, you can get them on e-retailers and individual distributors as follows. The individual distributors (be it through platforms like Shopee or home-based businesses) often offer cool variety packs or mix-and-match combos that you wouldn't find in supermarkets!

P.S. Once you've made your purchase, it's time to make all sorts of yummyKorean noodle recipes at home! Now that that's clear, here are the Samyang products with halal versions!
