Never did I imagine dining at Saravana Bhavan in the heart of New York City, but here I was! As always, this place lived up to its reputation for good dining and service. The taste was amazing, and the experience brought back nostalgic vibes. I tried their Parotta, which comes with two curries. The korma was absolutely delicious, but I was a bit disappointed that they only serve a small cup of it with no refills. The Masala Dosa was decent, as expected, and the Mini Tiffin was a highlight. It included mini sambhar idlis, pongal, a mini dosa, and a sweet, served with sambhar and chutney—everything tasted great. To finish the meal, the Madras Filter Coffee was spot on and a perfect end to the experience. Parking was a challenge in the area. Overall, a great dining experience, and I’ve attached a few captures from my visit! Rating: 4/5
I ordered the onion and chili dosa from here which I quite enjoyed. They were accompanied by a bunch of side dishes, which I think were all quite good - I especially enjoyed the green sauce and daal. I liked the crunchy texture of the dosa. All of us quite enjoyed the dosas that we ordered! Would definitely come back to try some other flavors. Also the dosas are quite cheap too - only $15 for the standard dosa.
Absolutely loved the authentic South Indian dishes—it instantly transported me back to my Chennai days. I ended up going there every single day during my 3-day trip to NYC! From parotta and plantain bajji to meals and the mini tiffin, everything was spot on. Honestly more authentic than the ones I used to go in Bay Area. I especially liked this branch for its warm service and top-notch food. While chatting with the server, I learned that the chef has over 15 years of experience—and it truly showed in the flavors. My only minor concern was the side dish for the parotta, which happened to be channa that day. They did mention that it changes daily, with options like mushroom masala and more. All in all, a fantastic experience—and of course, I wrapped it up with a comforting cup of filter coffee! ☕️?
I love South India food, and came here on one Friday evening. Needless to say, this was the best decision I made that day, by far. I ordered Medhu Vada (Lentil Dough Fritters), and their flagship Masala Dosa with onion. The Medhu Vada was light and fluffy, and the dosa was exquisite. The service was extremely quick, and the flavour was on point.
