If you are in Kyoto this is the place to be. If I can give 5/5 for the food and ambience, I would love to gove a 50/5 for the hospitality and service. The food is so delicious and above it is the warm welcoming service of the family that runs the place. All their dishes are super fresh and very delicious and Halal food.

Just 4 mins away from Sanjo station is this hidden gem! Sama Sama is amazing from the moment you enter and dine! Owner and his team is simply amazing to talk to - super friendly and well spoken. Its not easy to please me but I dont remember eating such delicious food even in Bali. Everything we tried from fried chicken, calamari, mie goreng and nasi goreng was just mouth watering and made us ask for seconds. Definitely a must visit.

I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH! The owner is charming and an incredibly interesting person to talk to! The food and atmosphere is amazing. Nested in a 110 year old geisha house with a few renovations, it has such a cosy vibe. The food is extremely delicious- balanced flavours which brings excitement with each bite. We had the nasi campur and mie goreng and it was great (a good break from non-stop ramen you consume in Japan). The place is very small and can only hold limited numbers at a time with floor seating and bar seating. I cannot recommend this place enough- this is a hidden gem in Kyoto worth gate-keeping!

We were in the mood for some non Japanese food and stumbled on this place via a Google maps search. It was some of the best Indonesian food we’ve had outside of Bali! Owner was super friendly and has been running this small establishment for over 30 years in this former Geisha house location down a narrow alleyway. Highly recommend!

Me and my friends had an amazing experience here tonight! We wanted to have some authentic Japanese food and this place did not disappoint. Food was super yum, service excellent, and the beer was super yummy. Highly recommend!
