Snickel Lane Level 7/23 Customs Street East, CBD, Auckland 1010, New Zealand
Khu Khu just set the bar sky-high for my first-ever vegan dining experience—talk about a game-changer! Every single dish was pure magic, packed with so much flavor that I almost forgot I wasn’t indulging in my usual go-to meals. And let’s talk about those espresso martinis… dangerously delicious and exactly the boost I needed! Located in the charming Snickel Lane, the ambience was just as fitting—cozy, lively, and the perfect backdrop for a midday feast. I stopped by with a friend around noon, and while the place filled up fast, the service never missed a beat—absolute pros. But the highlight of the visit? My friend was convinced she was eating real chicken. The look on her face when she realized it was entirely meatless? Priceless. Even my husband, a devoted carnivore, was blown away when I brought home leftovers. Whatever wizardry Khu Khu is working in the vegan space, they’re nailing it. If they can fool a table of meat lovers, they’re definitely doing something right. 10/10 would recommend, and I’ll be back for round two!
Delicious food and helpful service. All vegan but my omnivore partner enjoyed his meal with fake meat. Presentation of food was beautiful. Spice level is mild, medium or spicy and medium was pretty hot. They can go between levels if you'd prefer (and I would next time). Table was wobbly and door slammed every time someone used it, so only 4 stars on the atmosphere. There is a lunch and happy hour menu for dinner before 6. I had the Pad Prik Dang Tofu with Rice and my partner had the Night Market Noodles. We both loved our meals. Serving size was plenty - no need for apps or desserts.
I love meat, so I was hesitant about coming here, but it did not disappoint. The flavours in every dish were incredible. In particular, I would recommend the massaman curry, which was probably our favourite. Considering it was fake meat, the 'chicken' in the yum gai zap was fantastic. Had great crispiness and a great chew. If I were to find a criticism, it would be that for the price you pay, I would probably expect the curry to come served with a portion of rice instead of having to pay for a side dish. That's a minor issue, however, and I would still return
The service, ambiance, and most importantly, the food always impeccable. We’ve been here multiple times and truly can’t fault a single thing. The staff are consistently warm and friendly, and every dish we’ve tried has been outstanding. We’re not typically the type to order vegan dishes when dining out, but this place makes you forget meat altogether. The “chicken” is so convincing, you’d swear it was the real thing. And the “duck”? Incredibly flavorful! Honestly, I could write an entire essay about how much we love this spot. It’s usually not too busy when we visit, which actually worries us a little - we never want this gem to close! The ambiance is super cute and cozy, making it a perfect spot for any occasion. We recommend this place to all our friends because everyone needs to try it. So, so, so good!
Outstanding Thai food. We’ve visited Khu Khu three times now and every meal was fantastic. The tofu satay is tasty and cooked to perfection. The green curry is equally great. This place is now in our regular rotation whenever we visit Auckland.
