Everything was beautifully plated. I was especially blown away by the little red onion macrons (which are off menu). They are bite sized treasures. The potato dish was a stellar start to the evening. Their dessert is absolutely fantastic. I love their inspiration behind the dessert comes from Ethiopian coffee culture. 10/10. Side note - I was slightly underwhelmed by the celery and kale dishes. Beautiful presentations but I feel like the flavors could have been enhanced better. The miso is what made it better for me. The kale dish had much potential (it was beautiful). I feel like it was just under seasoned (for my taste). Overall it was pretty spectacular. I recommend this restaurant for sure!!! I got the desert sunrise mocktail which was pretty awesome too.
I went to Dirt Candy on a Friday night with my wife.. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was interesting presentation, novel flavors and textures. The service was excellent and I would absolutely go back. It's fun, creative - not a "daily meal". My wife didn't like it as much and it's hard to pinpoint why but it's worth noting dining can be a polarizing experience. If someone's looking for a high end dining meets vegetable focused cuisine then Dirt Candy is a great place. On a separate note the no tipping policy is a very welcome addition to the NYC dining scene.
Dirt Candy is a perfect example of creative cooking. If anyone tells you that vegetarian cuisine can't reach the heights of haute cuisine, tell them to eat here. We sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen, so were treated to what I consider my favorite "dinner theatre." We started with vegetable-infused cocktails, the Fennel 75 and a Vichyssoise Martini, both of which struck the perfect balance of ingredients. Each of the dishes was elegantly presented and bursting with flavor and the wine pairings were wonderfully creative.
This place is out of this world. I have been a vegetarian whole life and yet I was surprised by the amount of flavors/textures they were able to extract out of veggies. Dirt candy will definitely make you crave for more veggies if not fall in love with them. The first three courses (fennel, peas, artichoke) along with the surprise items were mind blowing with each topping the previous. However, Broccoli - 4th course, was a bit of a let down when you compare with the previous courses. The dessert, a spin on Caesar’s salad was creative but not the best. Staff was very kind! Overall, this is a must visit place. As they have a seasonal menu, we will be back here soon!
This dining experience of a 5 course meal with unique flavors in every dish is outstanding. We tried the spring menu and absolutely loved it. (they also serve 2 pallet cleansers) The portion sizes might seem tiny but it’s very filling and fulfilling meal. This place definitely lives up to the ‘you eat with your eyes & nose first’.
