If you’re on the hunt for a satisfying plate of Fried Chicken Rice that hits all the right notes, Pondok Rasa has got you covered. I recently tried their version, which cost $8.50 (with the add-on of chicken liver and gizzard), and let me tell you—it’s worth every cent. First off, the rice. Fried to perfection, it had just the right balance of flavour and fluffiness, with little pops of egg and greens for texture. It wasn’t greasy, which is a big plus, and each bite carried a subtle wok hei aroma. Now let’s talk about the chicken. The roasted chicken was juicy with a glistening skin, paired with a rich and slightly sweet soy glaze that elevated the entire dish. But the real stars of this meal? The chicken liver and gizzard add-ons. Tender and flavorful, they had that comforting earthiness, cooked just enough to retain their texture without being tough. And the accompaniments—simple yet essential. Crisp cucumber slices on the side brought a refreshing crunch to balance the richness of the dish, while the fried shallots sprinkled on top added an extra layer of fragrance and flavor. What I love about this meal is how it combines the nostalgia of hawker food with a hearty, premium twist. Sure, $8.50 is on the higher end for a hawker dish, but the portion size and quality make it feel like a treat. If you’re ever in the area and looking for something both familiar and indulgent, this is the one to try. Would I go back? Absolutely. And if you’re as big a fan of offal as I am, do yourself a favour and add those livers and gizzards to your order. Trust me on this one—Pondok Rasa’s Fried Chicken Rice is a gem for comfort food lovers.

Ordered Malay Nasi Padang. Beef is tender, and the portion is good. although price slightly higher but worth the money. Many other varieties of food in this Muslim coffeeshop.
