528 Kent St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia
Location was fantastic. We took public transport/walked everywhere including from the airport. Great food options around. We weren't able to check in early but we did have a tea in the arrivals lounge which was nice. Had a few conversations with other guests regarding how slow the elevators were. I found myself mentally adding a buffer for how long the elevator would take to arrive. I would stay again. I liked the room - it had a good layout. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite. Felt clean (mostly, were some crumbs on the table) and felt pretty modern and spacious. No clue if there was some trick to the curtains but it felt like a wrestling match every time I had to open and close them. Air-conditioning was very good. Washer and dryer worked well and I liked that washing liquid was provided. Kitchen seemed pretty well stocked regarding cooking utensils but we didn't end up using them, although I would have appreciated some milk. I liked the bed. It was a good plushness level without being too soft or firm. Pillows were nice as well and overall very spacious. There was only a powerpoint on one side of the bed, the other side had one on the opposite wall which was quite inconvenient. I honestly have no clue why all hotels don't have powerpoints in their bedside tables at this stage. The bathroom was spacious and I thought the hairdryer was very good. I would have liked a small mirror at the desk to do my makeup. Pool area and sauna was very nice, although the spa was very much on the cool side. Warm enough to be pleasant but not ideal if you were looking for some heat to relax muscles with. I had a few interactions with various staff members and I found them all delightful.
Always have a lovely time when we stay here. Our suite has always been ready on our arrival, even an hour early (but please remember this may not be always so. We have just been lucky ) Staff are approachable and ensure our stay is nice. Guest services (housekeeping) were available when we had requests, such as changing the small bin under the kitchen counter. The views from the top floor ( level 56) are what you would expect from being in the city, you can watch the sunset and sunrise, view the city night lights and yes you do have some water views. The only issue is with the Chromecast, but I am thinking this may be due to the amount of guests accessing it ...around the same time and the load of this may be too much for chromecast to cope. So maybe a iPad or small laptop for the kids or yourself for nighttime viewing. Remember luxury can be different for individuals. I think it sits within the range of luxury for the age of the hotel. Oh and make sure your suitcase is not overly heavy ...it's a workout going up those stairs to the bedrooms in the 3 bedroom altitude suite ?. Reading other reviews - the elevator - you have people in and out of the elevators all day, of course body odours are going to be flowing through the air! So yes there will be a smell at times ...it's an enclosed space, except when the doors open. If you care to ever look up in the top corner of the elevators it has a air deodoriser that will occasionally spray ' room deodorant" to help try and eliminate or lessen the effects of all our body odours. Now if someone released a gaseous flatulence ...yeah that would be annoying to the sense smell ? The spa and pool were both clean and the spa had enough chlorine to conquer all germs in the whole of Sydney. Yes the king sized bedrooms are formed by have two single beds put together. I thought this would be common knowledge....seems not for some people. Many hotels worked this way and even cruise ships. Single beds are easier to move around for housekeeping than a king sized bed!
Had a great weekend during vivid in an altitude suite, we made use of the pool and spa that were a lovely temperature for winter and plenty of towels were always stocked to use, the room was lovely with a great view comfortable beds and quiet. There is plenty of places to get coffee, food, drinks nearby. A short walk to imax and darling square where we enjoyed a few meals and fun. We booked again for next year and recommend it.
