14/1 Skelton Road Colombo 5, Colombo 00500, Sri Lanka
Peaceful space in Colombo! Beautiful house and the owners have taken the time to look into all the details. You don't feel you're staying in the city with all the nature around. Walking distance to nice cafes/restaurants. We highly recommend and plan to come and stay again in the future!
Breathtakingly beautiful B&B inspired by the tropical modernism of the influential Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. Our family of 4 spent 1 night at Highbury Colombo in mid March and were blown away by the beauty of the property and the hospitality of our hosts Manoji and Manitha. More than just accomodations, Highbury Colombo was a destination in itself. We spent most of the morning delighting in the inside/outside style of the house and the abundance of plants created the feeling of being in a more remote location than urban Colombo. We were able to easily call an Uber to the B&B. We could also walk out to the main road, a block or 2 away, and flag down a 3 wheeler. We hope to be lucky enough to come back and spend more time at Highbury Colombo in the future.
Support local business—Highbury Colombo is the ultimate boutique experience with a homestay's attention to detail. The architectural details are worth more than the price of the stay, and this wife-husband duo spare no effort. One morning while prepping breakfast for guests, they told me they were up late (til 3:30am) helping an elderly couple find a taxi to get to Highbury Colombo, which was tricky given that it's the middle of the night. The owners are the most loving, effusive, attentive hosts I've had, and they have a wealth of knowledge if you're interested in Geoffrey Bawa designs in Colombo and beyond—as well as a rather extensive collection of books on Bawa and Sri Lankan architecture. Look no further!
Beautiful room in a lovely location, Moderate service, bit awkward dynamics. I liked the room quite a bit Lovely bathroom Lovely secret entrance experience (alittle hard to find) Bits slightly disappointing: The room wasn't made up and was not cleaned up during my two nights stay. Booking.com fee was 79$ for two nights. Management suggested canceling the booking and paying directly which I didn't have an issue with, but i was then charged 85$. I did agree to 3% extra fee due to visa payment, but that would be 2$ not 6$ extra. Small money but didn't sit well with me. Last morning the hotel was full of drying racks with asortment of cloths. Quite cute in a way, but also slightly odd as the public spaces felt inaccessible. When after checking out I was walking out with luggage to meet my driver who was already waiting, management asked me if I switched AC in my room. I wasn't sure and they asked me to go back to check. I found the dynamics of this request inappropriate and it left a bit of bad taste. To summarie. Beautiful place in a lovely area, but little weird dynamics and poor service. I would not recommend to my friends to stay here.
A relaxing urban oasis in central Colombo — can't recommend the Highbury enough, and it'll definitely be included on our next Sri Lanka trip. The modern, Bawa-inspired architecture is stunning, and the rooms and bathrooms are exceptional. Plus, an expansive collection of books selected by the friendly owners Manoji and Manitha.
