This was a great experience for the 2 of us on our trip to Kyoto. Big room with a lot of amenities given for free (razors, brush’s, water etc.) comparing it to our Tokyo hotel this was much better value.

For a 4 star hotel, the complimentary of toast,  waffles and coffee in the morning and Matcha tea in the evenings was beyond expectations. Not something you’d get usually even in a 5 star hotel.

Not sure what some of the other reviews are on about, this place was great.

The location of the hotel is excellent, the breakfast is sufficient but the same. For more than 3 days it is better to have breakfast elsewhere. The rooms are cozy, simple and purposefully designed, more like a holiday in, 3 stars are enough. I see the carpet in the toilet as a problem. As part of hygiene, wear shoes. The stains on the floor are not good. Certainly, investing in a ceramic floor would not be a waste. But it is definitely not a 4-star hotel.!!!!

The superior room is small basic and functional more like a three star hotel. Beds are comfortable. The floor carpet was stained  but clean. Staff is nice and helpful. Breakfast is served in bento box and is tasty but not very rich. Complementary coffee and tea are served all day long. Location is central and next to shopping streets. Kyoto highlights are spread all over town though.

I want to give one star, but I also want to make sure my review does not get deleted by the owner.

This hotel may look nice on the surface, but it is absolutely not deserving of its four-star rating.

First of all, the front desk staff were extremely indifferent. During check-in, there was no sense of welcome or hospitality whatsoever. They were rigid about the 3 PM check-in policy—something I’ve never encountered at a four-star hotel before, though I tried to be understanding.

Upon checking in, I was told that housekeeping would only be provided if I placed the “cleaning requested” sign on the door. That in itself was fine, but when I walked down the hallway after checking in, I was shocked to see garbage bags and dirty towels littering the corridor.

We were scheduled to stay for three nights, and after the second night, we requested housekeeping. The standard of service was shockingly poor. The bed sheets still had stains on them. The freshly replaced towels were carelessly thrown on top of my personal face towel. My pajamas were tossed onto the sofa, and dirty towels were even wrapped up with my sleepwear. Worst of all, my personal slippers were kicked under the bed.

I truly cannot understand how a hotel that claims to be four-star allows such unprofessional housekeeping practices. This was a highly disappointing and frustrating experience.

I stayed for three nights at the Agora Hotel. The establishment was clean and well located, which is definitely a positive point. However, my room didn’t have a window that could be opened, and the glass was opaque, so I couldn’t see outside; I felt a bit like I was locked in. The sink was in the room, but the shower and toilet were very well equipped and comfortable, especially the toilet with a washing system, which I found remarkable.
On the downside, the tea and coffee served were not hot. For breakfast, a pre-prepared tray was placed in front of me without anyone asking about my preferences. As a vegetarian, I was disappointed to receive a tray full of meat, along with a croissant and pain au chocolat, and Western cutlery. For Japanese guests, the tray consisted of rice and chopsticks. I found this disappointing, especially since I came to Japan to discover the local cuisine. When I asked to change my tray, I was told it wasn’t possible that day, but that it would be taken into account for the next day. There were also no tissues available.
