A historic viewpoint with breathtaking scenery and a serene atmosphere Lipton’s Seat is a truly iconic destination in Sri Lanka, offering a perfect blend of natural beauty and colonial history. Named after Sir Thomas Lipton, who used to sit here and survey his tea empire, this viewpoint provides panoramic vistas of rolling tea plantations, misty mountains, and distant villages. On a clear day, you can even see five provinces from the top! The drive or hike up winds through lush tea estates, and the experience is peaceful and refreshing. If you’re up for it, the walk from the Dambatenne Tea Factory to the summit (about 7 km) is scenic and rewarding. The early morning hours are best for clearer views and cooler weather. There are a few small shops at the top for tea and snacks, and locals are welcoming. Don’t forget your camera – this is one of the most photogenic spots in the hill country. An absolute must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone exploring Sri Lanka’s tea region.

•The time we went 5.45pm so The authorities wouldn't let us go.We are coming from Batticaloa. We had obtained their permission by saying the following. Then they wouldn't let us enter our vehicle. Then my friend and I walked in the Mount. The time when we finally reach 6:30.Although I couldn't enjoy the full beauty of this place,It was good. There is a shop at the top of that hill where tea is available and food is available. •That day taught me and my best friend are lot of lessons....

Lipton Seat is absolutely beautiful and offers an amazing view! I visited from Haputale town for the first time, and the road to get there is one of the most scenic routes I’ve ever traveled. The road has steep climbs, sharp 180-degree bends, and is quite narrow in many places. There are a few small spots where vehicles can pass each other, so you need to be a skilled and patient driver. Some three-wheeler drivers will tell you that the road gets too narrow about 7–8 km from the top and try to convince you to take a tuk-tuk—but if you trust your driving, you can go all the way yourself. I drove a 2017 Panda Cross and had no issues. Even smaller cars like the Wagon R can make it to the top. Only the last 1–1.5 km is a bit rough with some bumpy, stone-covered patches, but it’s still manageable with care. The road winds through beautiful tea gardens and has a calm, peaceful vibe. Some people choose to walk, which is also a great option if you have time. There’s a real sense of serenity here—please help protect the environment while you enjoy it. Definitely worth a visit if you’re traveling to Haputale
