312 Montreal Street, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch 8013, New Zealand
Nice gallery space with focus on local artists and their work. ATM visiting show is the country's woodblock print collection, quite extensive with NZ Australian and english artists, of the course the founders and teachers Cyril Powers and Edith Spowers. ♥️
A cute modern art museum, free to visit, not many exhibits but comfortable space, with lots of creative spaces on the first floor for children to play and stimulate their imagination.
Gallery spaces filled with works by New Zealand artists, many depicting NZ scenes. New exhibition (June 2025) with several beautiful pieces by Fred Graham, artist and educator (who died last month). He is regarded as a pioneer in the contemporary Māori art movement. There are some lounge areas, including one with a selection of videos to watch. The gift shop sells books, gifts, whimsical items, greenstone jewellery and has a large section with children’s books and gifts.
LOVELY art museum for all to see and experience ( free entry but donation attpreciated) Fabulous displays ! my favourite was the bathroom/pipes/tapes, heaps of art on display with visual recordings for you to sit and enjoy
Excellent art museum. Current exhibitions visited included 20th and 21st century curated art works with a very strong focus on New Zealand artists. Well worth the time and effort to include in your itinerary through Christchurch. Restaurant and shop on site. Mobility access and support available. Two thumbs up!!
