No mistake it's a Shangri-la-managed hotel after all. The concierge, front desk, room service, and club lounge staff... all exude the same professionalism and service excellence one would expect of Shangri-la. Although JEN is only a 4-star hotel, Shangri-la customer service is always 5-star! This JEN Penang 16th and 17th floor are suite level whereby suite guests have all-day access to its 16th floor Club Lounge for included buffet style breakfast, hi-tea, and dinner with free flow of wines and liquor... plus excellent city view. The room is spacious and clean with adjustable air-con. All wall outlets are equipped with international plugs with a built-in USB-A charging port. The bathroom is equipped with a bidet. One nice convenient feature is we can order room items (e.g. pillows, slippers, etc) via the member's app and the room service staff is very quick to deliver. The buffet breakfast is okay (not comparable to Shangri-la Singapore 5-star) and I like that it's self-service machine-brewed fresh coffee and milk. This hotel is indeed in the heart of Georgetown; within walking distance to the UNESCO sites and shopping malls.
This hotel is centrally located in Georgetown and was perfect for my 2 night stay. The rooms were clean, spacious and comfortable with all the amenities one requires, except a bar-fridge that chills (this one doesn't). Thankfully I simply requested an ice bucket via the online service portal and one arrived to my room within minutes. The beds and pillows were comfortable with quality linens provided. The bathroom was nice, featuring quality L'Occitane soap, shampoo & conditioner. The toilet is equiped with an automatic bidet. Unfortunately, the housekeeping let Jen down, having returned from a morning and afternoon out exploring, only to return to our room not serviced was disappointing. We put a call through to have it done and then headed out to dinner, when we returned this time it seemed like it was a rushed job The pool area was a bit boring and felt they could enhance the atmosphere by playing some music through speakers, adding a bar service or some more comfortable sitting areas that would make you want to utilize this area for longer. The executive lounge located on 16th floor was a nice inclusion to our stay and the service here was good and we made use of the complimentary drinks and snacks in the late afternoons. The buffet breakfast was enjoyable with a decent selection of Asian and western choices, albeit no "real" bacon, I'm guessing due to the oppressive Islamic rules imposed on all, even though only approx 70% of population is Muslim. Overall this is a decent hotel and would suit ta business traveller, however due to its location would make exploring Georgetown easy for anyone. I liked my experience and would consider staying here again.
The hotel location is very strategic. Walking distance to many food eateries and attractions. Room is clean, spacious, comfortable and good sound proofing. Room amenities provided are good and sufficient. Front desk has gone above and beyond making sure our needs are fulfilled. Good breakfast spread with lots of choice.
Location, convenient. Next to a shopping mall (literally 3min walk from hotel lobby. Upon exiting the hotel, turn left). Easy to find food everywhere in Georgetown. Check in, smooth and easy. Lounge on Level 16. Not impressive. If we return, we would book a room without access to the lounge. For breakfast, the same food from Cafe Jen but less option. For happy hour, too crowded and noisy, packed. Finger food was not nice. Gym, spacious. Good. Room, compact and clean. Bed, comfortable. Amenity, reasonable. Any problem during our stay? Yes. Work (banging sound) in the roof, we were on Level 17. Called staff on the phone and lady helped move us to another room on Level 16. Thank you. Check Out, smooth. Used Grab to go airport (RM29, I think). Did we enjoy? Yes Would we return to Jen? Yes.
The rooms were really beautiful and clean. I love that the floor is vinyl. I prefer that as sometimes I worry what gets trapped in the carpet. Beds were not too soft. Which was good because lumbar support is necessary for some of us. When we request for items, the hotel reception even calls to double check if we have received them. I think that's really thoughtful. As for the location, its near to cafes and 1st avenue mall is just next to Hotel Jen. Very convenient. Massage places are opposite the hotel as well. Love that! To add on to my joy, a live band plays there. Throwing classics like Celine Dion. My favourite part of the hotel is the cafe at Level 16, it gives a beautiful view over Georgetown while I had my cakes, fruit and coffee over there in the evening. 5/5. Very satisfied.
