8-16 Nishikimachi, Kita Ward, Okayama, 700-0902, Japan
People working in this hotel are extremely nice and helpful. They do speak English a bit! The room are clean, was no problems, they got free ice cream, umbrellas to borrow, breakfast. 100% recommended for this price range!
Little walk from the main station. Rooms were nice and big (for Japanese standards), clean and super fresh. We also had a nice view from our room overlooking part of a river and seeing a church as well as a nice intersection. I like that they are going for a theme with their mascot and ended up getting a souvenir. Staff was super friendly as well, and I was not expecting the free steamed buns alongside the free bread for breakfast and 24h soda fountain!
Why anyone would give this less than 5 stars is beyond me. It's about 10 minutes on foot from Okayama station, and is the best hotel I've stayed on my trip so far. The rooms are very spacious for one, the table is big enough for me to work, and there's space inside where I can open up my 140cm suitcase easily. Everyone's been raving about its service and amenities and I agree. 24 hour drink service in the lobby, 100 yen drinks/beer (!), 10 yen chips, free bread in the morning, and all sorts of in-room amenities you can take from the lobby. They also sell their own souvenir and I actually bought some because I thought it was so thoughtful. Even their washing/drying service is cheaper than laundromats outside. The only little hiccup is that you have to leave your key at the front door but this did not bother me one bit. I enjoyed my time here so much I'm looking forward to staying here again if I'm in Okayama another time. By the way lots of restaurants, bars, shops and a Family Mart nearby. It was just such a comfortable stay. I need to say that surprisingly this was the one hotel on my trip where I actually met and talked to other travellers in the lobby. While they're all foreign tourists this was a pleasant surprise because I really don't come across this usually. I think guests who stay here are enjoying the exceptional service and attention to detail as well and are just generally more easy-going. If you're looking for high end, Hotel Maira isn't for you. But for all the services they deliver, for the friendliness and courtesy their front desk staff has shown, and for the hard work their cleaning staff does, the price, the location and the quality is just unbeatable. You're getting your every penny's worth with this hotel and as someone who's stayed in plenty in Japan, this one really stood out.
The hotel is about 7 minute walk from Okayama Station, but it's very close to the city center. You can walk directly to Okayama Castle or Korakuen Garden in about 20 minutes. There are many famous restaurants nearby, and the staff is very friendly. The hotel facilities are well-equipped, offering free drinks, coffee, ice pops, bath bombs, toothbrushes, and more. The products of the hotel are also very cute, and the beer and food in the vending machine are even cheaper than at convenience stores. Breakfast is also provided for free, with about six types of bread to choose from, which is very good value for money. However, the cleanliness needs improvement. Upon entering the room, I found used toilet paper that hadn't been flushed in the toilet, and there were hairs on the bed and towels. Additionally, the soundproofing of the rooms is poor. You can hear conversations from neighboring rooms when near the wall, and rooms facing the street can hear drunk people from nearby izakayas loudly chatting. These two points are a bit disappointing. By the way, the TV has adult channels, so guests traveling with children should be aware.
They have free drinks and ice cream. The room is very nice with reasonable price. They also have laundry service on the first floor. I enjoy my stay here.
