I stumbled upon this gem of place after my meditative walk through the Hoenin temple, which is another jewel (check out my review). Just as you descend from the temple, it’s right at the corner of the first intersection. The little steps and front porch with crimson maple leaves across the stones was very inviting. I knew I was going to get warm and cozy inside. I was ushered in by the old lady that runs? the place. She was very kind and spoke very good English. It is a traditional Japanese diner so I had to remove my shoes and took a seat at a table on the floor. Each table has a stove to prepare the tofu right in front of you. The two waiter boys, who also spoke good English, explained the ritual very well. The food and the experience over all was great.
Probably the most delicious tofu meal we’ve ever eaten. We chose a tofu set for each of us, and that came with a set of entrée plus condiments and then a huge set of main dish consisting of five tofu pieces. Don’t underestimate the portion. It was huge and very filling! Plus, every single dish was unique and diverse. It was gentle, warm, and clean, and not at all bland. The servers were helpful and accommodating, explaining in detail the menu and how to work the hotpot. Highly recommended!
A lovely quaint homely place that does excellent Tofu Kaiseki! If you’re thinking how interesting can you cook tofu? You will be pleasantly surprised! I tried the set and all the dishes were absolutely delicious, cooked and seasoned in different styles! Highly recommended!
Lovely meal in a quiet atmosphere overlooking beautiful maple trees. My favorite dishes were the sesame tofu, the awafu dengaku, and crispy light tempura. These were so unique to me and delicious. It’s been one of the most nourishing and relaxing meals we’ve had during our week in Kyoto.
We had a delicious lunch with tofu as the star at this Japanese restaurant, which offers a beautiful view and great prices! They have a vegetarian/vegan menu option. Really nice experience. Highly recommended!
