The smokiness, texture and appearance of the vegetarian chicken satay is 7/10. It could have been mistaken as real chicken satay. The Satay sauce goes really well with the meat too. Try the otar too ! Amazing skill
I must say I was very impressed with the satay. I have not had satay ever since I stopped taking meat many years ago.. and for someone who doesn't like mock meat, I was apprehensive and felt a little repulsive that the satay might taste like mock meat however when I had the first bite, "Wow.." was my first reaction. It doesn't taste like mock meat! The satay was chunky and it smells good as well as tasty. The satay sauce was a good accompaniment too! However, the satay was a bit pricey.. $10 for 10 sticks and they don't have ketupat. I can never understand why vegetarian is always more pricey than normal food.. Well.. I would come back for the satay again but probably not often due to the price and accessibility for me; and I would probably try the other stuff in the menu too.
Probably the best veg satay ever! the ‘meat’ had a chewy unami taste, the gravy was nutty & sedap (no onions ? only cucumbers). The ‘fish’ otah had texture and slightly on the spicy side. So much otah in the banana leaf, very satisfying.
The chicken satay is made of soy protein I was told It’s tasty however I find the coating of sugar or whatever that is making the satay sweet is too much It is also more expensive than real meat satay $1.20 per stick Min 10
The Satay and Otah were both amazing. As a visitor to Singapore, I also felt like I got an amazing local experience eating at this hawker centre, and that too as a vegetarian. Must try for vegetarians when visiting Singapore!
