New restaurant along Kyoto’s Pontocho… Matahari Patang, serving dishes from Bali/Sumatra/Java! I believe it to be quite authentic, in fact, their two set menu choices are only written in Indonesian! The regular menu, which is the same for lunch and dinner, is trilingual. So, for Pontocho, this restaurant is an extremely reasonable dinner option. Some items are very spicy, let them know and they will steer you away from them. And, if you order one of the specials, you can choose 2-3 main dishes (ex. stewed beef with coconut milk and spices, grilled or fried chicken…). I had the ¥1850 set and didn’t specify - it came with chicken curry and fried cow’s lung ?. I would never have chosen cow’s lung, but, to be honest, I didn’t ask what it was and just ate it - actually very tasty! Nice interior, spacious, clean and clutter-free, traditional music playing in the background. Due to the fragrances and flavors of the food, and the smile of the staff member who waited on me, for an hour I was transported to Indonesia!

BEST INDONESIAN HALAL RESTAURANT IN KYOTO! The taste of the food remind me with my hometown. All the food is delicious! The price is quite reasonable, the environment so clean and peaceful. Absolutely amazing food, amazing flavors and amazing hospitality. Every dish is amazingly flavorful and so tender you don’t even need a fork. Amazing and definitely worth a stop.

Alhamdulillah,halal place in Kyoto.Easy to find but no nearby parking so expect to find parking 500m away.Place is comfortable,clean,cozy and presentable. As the name given,this place is for nasi padang mostly.Portion of dishes very small,only sufficient for 1 person.Food is tasty.Price is steep,example plain white rice 350¥.Variety for menu is ok.
