This is a unique restaurant that offers great food and service, along with a history lesson about Morocco and its cuisine! My friends and I had a great time eating here, and the owners were nice enough to let us stay after closing to finish our meal and master the Moroccan style of pouring tea! I definitely recommend going here with a group for a fun time. If I’m ever in Kyoto again, I’m definitely coming back!
So happy I found this restaurant. The food was delicious. I have been in Japan for almost 3 weeks and I was really looking for a meal with an ample amount healthy protein and salad. They were so accommodating to my requests giving me a huge plate of salad and the chicken skewers were not only a huge portion but also delicious. The flavors are so good. The owner gave me history of the food and was very welcoming. Highly recommend eating here.
I had been craving Moroccan food for a long time, and this was simply perfect! The harissa soup was amazing, and the couscous was just as delicious. I’ll definitely be back soon
Authentic Moroccan food near the main shopping district of Kyoto. Please note thos is located in down a flight of stairs from street level. The is a good amount of seating space available inside and the decor is nice. The food was outstanding! Most flavorful and hearty food I've had in Kyoto. The meats are all halal. The owners were extremely good hosts. They were very knowledgeable about Moroccan cuisine and culture. Very friendly and helpful. We had ordered the chicken couscous and chicken tagine lunch sets. Delicious!!
Tucked away in a quiet Kyoto neighborhood, La Baraka is an absolute gem: a Moroccan restaurant that doesn’t just serve food, but delivers a full-hearted experience you’ll never forget. From the moment you step in, you’re welcomed not just as a guest, but like family. We started our meal with Harira, the traditional Moroccan soup, rich with spices and soul. It was deeply comforting, with layers of flavor that warmed us from the inside out. The salad was fresh and vibrant, made from seasonal, local Kyoto vegetables: a beautiful fusion of Moroccan spirit and Japanese produce. The tajine was the star of the evening. Slow-cooked, aromatic, and perfectly seasoned, it was honestly the best I’ve ever had and I’ve tried many as a Moroccan myself. The flavors were complex yet familiar, transporting us straight to Morocco while still feeling completely at home. Every detail at La Baraka feels personal. The owner and his wife are some of the kindest people we’ve met. Their hospitality is genuine: you can feel the love in every dish, every gesture. After our meal, we enjoyed fragrant Moroccan tea, followed by complimentary sweets that made for the perfect ending. What truly made the night unforgettable was the Moroccan owner himself. Not only did he share stories and smiles throughout the meal, but he also walked us outside after dinner and gave us tips on where to see the most beautiful cherry blossoms nearby. That kind of care and thoughtfulness is rare. If I ever return to Japan, La Baraka will be my first stop in Kyoto. It’s a heartwarming experience that blends cultures, kindness, and cuisine in the most beautiful way. Highly recommended!
