1. Sedap Thai

Located in the heart of Jalan Besar, you can find Sedap Thai amongst a jungle of hawker stalls at Berseh Food Centre. With a yummy variety of marinated meat and fresh seafood, Sedap Thai is not only yummy but affordable too!

You can choose your items ala carte or have their platter which costs around $20. The best part is, you can share this platter between 2 people. Sink your teeth in their garlic chicken and black pepper beef, or have fresh prawns and beef slices in your choice of steamboat soup 😋 Choose their chicken broth or top up $2 for tom yum.

Dip your meat into their various chilli sauces and savour it – we’re pretty sure you’ll be left satisfied! As lard is usually used as a base for Thai BBQ steamboats, finding a halal one can be a difficult task but Sedap Thai uses beef fat instead.

A BBQ steamboat with a view? Count us in! Located at Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre, Lukhon Thai is where all you east-siders can get your BBQ steamboat fix. For the portions that you get, it’s both delicious and value for money.

You can either order their platter sets or off their à la carte menu. Each BBQ steamboat platter combo is $26.80 for 2 (approximately $13 per person). Here’s where you can have a selection of marinated meat like Tom Yum Chicken, Garlic Chicken, Black Pepper Beef and other ingredients. And did we mention that for just $3.80, you can have a serving of delicious cheese dip to savour with your barbecued food? 🤤

Don’t miss out on their Thai chilli sauce too, which is one of Lukhon Thai’s specialties. This mix of sweet, spicy and salty flavours is the perfect complement to your barbecued meat.

Now here’s one for the westies! Located in Jurong East, Chickata is pretty interesting as there’s a 90-minute time limit for you to indulge in their yummy platter. But we’re sure that’s more than enough time for you to stuff yourselves with their mouthwatering food.

With a variety of over 30 ingredients, you’ll certainly be spoilt for choice at Chickata. Some of their highly recommended dishes are Tom Yum Chicken, Black Pepper Beef, Teriyaki Chicken and Black Pepper Lamb. Their combo platters for 2 start from $28 (approximately $14 per person).

5. Flame Café

It’s not 1, not 2 but a 4-tier BBQ steamboat tower at Flame Cafe! The eatery serves you BBQ steamboat in their signature pagoda, and each tier has something different. Choose between 2 different soup bases for a steamboat at the lowest tier, grill your marinated meat and seafood on the second tier, indulge in a cheese dip on the third tier and finally steam vegetables or dim sum on the top tier.

At just $19.90, you can indulge in Flame Café’s Deluxe Set which offers a huge variety of ingredients (over 70!) including their drool-inducing pool of cheese as a dipping sauce! With an additional $3.90, you can also change your dipping sauce to salted egg. Totally awesome!

This next one on our list only has steamboat option but we had to put it in as it’s too yummy to resist!  A well-known tteokbokki (rice cake) eatery in Korea, Mukshidonna now has a halal-certified outlet at Downtown East!

Their signature steamboat-style army stew is to die for! You can customise your own pot with a range of ingredients ranging from seafood to juicy, succulent meat 😉 Choose from a list of stews based on your liking: mussels, bulgogi (beef), chicken sausage, mushroom and for the cheese lovers in the house, cheese-flavoured stew!

Having been around for over 30 years, you can always rely on Seoul Garden for your BBQ steamboat fix! Not only do they have a huge variety of delicious meat and seafood items to fill your tummy, Seoul Garden is also a great meet-up spot for catch-ups and birthday celebrations ☺️

Its weekday lunch buffet is priced below $20 and considering the buffet spread, it’s worth every single penny especially for those with a huge appetite. The highlight of Seoul Garden is its large variety of raw marinated meat (served buffet-style) ranging from common flavours such as Szechuan Chicken to interesting (and sometimes unorthodox) flavours such as Coffee Chicken.

Jinshangyipin offers five different soup bases for your hot pot – Spicy, Pickled Vegetable, Herbal, Mushroom and Tomato – and they cost $35 for both lunch and dinner. We highly recommend getting the tomato soup or spicy soup for a kick. One thing this eatery does different from other hotpot shops is that everyone gets their own pot! Plus, you can top up $4.90 for a barbecue too.
