New Muslim-Owned Coffee Shop In Upper Thomson

Fahmi opened State of Affairs this year, after spending almost a decade of his life moving up the ranks to be the Head of Coffee and Operations Manager at Penny University, a well-known halal cafe in Katong. He felt that it was time to realise his dream: to open his own coffee shop. The concept is entirely different from what you think a cafe has: the focus here is all just coffee, there's no all-day breakfast or brunch! 😱
But be prepared for your expectations to be blown away by just one sip from this exquisite cup. Fahmi told us that the beans used are carefully selected, roasted, and profiled by their team. The menu is kept small and on a rotational basis to keep things interesting! Do check out their social media, because they will update their menu accordingly. Okay, they're really making us love coffee even more already! 😍

If you're not sure what to try, Fahmi suggests their Filter Coffee. It has a clean, smooth, less acidic taste, which means it's best drunk black. You can definitely appreciate the distinct and complex flavours, which is truly the hallmark of what good coffee is: aromatic, and a balance of sweetness and acidity. ☺️
Don't worry if coffee isn't your choice. Choose the Koko Deluxe instead. It's chocolatey goodness filled up to the brim in a cup and comes all the way from Melbourne. Milo, who?! They do offer small, sharing plates such as Potato Croquettes and Cauliflower Steak, which are perfect snacks to quickly munch on (it's called a coffee break for a reason, guys 😉).

Whatever your purpose is when you head down to the stall, Fahmi hopes you take away one important thing home (yes, coffee included too, if you wish 😋): "I really hope that this space offers a place of respite for those who need a short break, and for everyone else as well before they go about getting their affairs in order”. He also wishes to share some coffee knowledge while learning about his customers from all walks of life.
