Day 1: Arrive in Christchurch

Time to check out from your hotel and drive to Franz Josef Glacier (it’s about a 6.5-hour drive).

Make a detour to Greymouth or Hokitika while on your way to the glaciers.

  • However, do note that the drive is about 14 hours so we recommend staying overnight in Wellington. If that’s too long for you, you can fly to Auckland from Christchurch or Queenstown.
