Curry puffs (also known as epok-epok or karipap) are one of Singapore's favourite local snacks. Typically stuffed with a curry chicken, curry potato, or sardine filling and encased in a golden-brown pastry shell, they're the perfect breakfast snack or mid-day pick-me-up. ? And now there's a Muslim-owned home business that's reinventing it! Vegan Haven makes Singapore's first 100% plant-based curry puffs that are so savoury and delicious, they'll change all of your ideas of what vegan food tastes like. ?

Their puffs are handmade daily using only the freshest of ingredients. One of the main fillings is young jackfruit which can be cooked and shredded to a meat-like texture and consistency. With the right blend of spices and flavourings, you'll have a hard time believing that there isn't any meat in your puff! The puffs are made with no eggs, nuts, or preservatives (so remember to chill or freeze them if you're planning to eat them later!) and are alliums-free too (no garlic or onion). So their puffs can be eaten by everyone regardless of dietary requirements or restrictions. ?

If you're looking for something similar to your usual curry puff, try the Beyond XL ($4) puff first. Packed with Beyond Meat it's the least spicy of their flavours so anyone can enjoy it. ? The Sambal ($2.50) puff is also protein-packed with tempeh, tofu, and long beans, to keep you going throughout the day! ?

For something unique, try the Mala, Rendang, or Thai Green Curry puffs. The Mala ($2.50) puff comes packed with Sichuan Peppercorns and their own blend of spices to bring the heat and it's a 2-chilli rating so it's a little spicier than the Sambal. The Thai Green Curry ($2.50) and Rendang ($2) puffs each contain jackfruit filling combined with special herbs and spices blend for an aromatic burst of flavour in every bite. They're also the spiciest at a 3-chilli rating so spice lovers - can you take the heat? ?

The puffs also last for up to a week when chilled or frozen so you can slowly finish your box of puffs over the next few days. ? Vegan Haven do not currently have a brick-and-mortar store but you can order their puffs online for delivery or self pick-up. Pick-up points are at Boon Keng or Raffles Place and if you bring your own container for self pick-up you can get 20-50 cents off your order!

If you haven't tried vegan food before or are thinking of including more plant-based food into your diet, these puffs are a good introduction to how tasty vegan food can really be. ?
