We stayed at the Suite Room on the ground floor which was v spacious with a living and dining area and bathtub with separate toilet. The resort itself is really big and there's shuttle bus provided to get to their activity centre, beach club and other villas and restaurants. There's plenty of activities available (at a fee) and buffet breakfast provided as part of the room booking.

It's much quieter than other beach resorts near the jetty which we love as it's less crowded and we really got to enjoy and chill from the busyness of life.

Nirwana gardens is one of the most beautiful, relaxing and peaceful hotel I have ever been to. Stuff is very friendly, kind and helpful. Very beautiful people inside and out.
Lovely atmosphere, clean pools, warm sea, tasty food in this little paradise.

From the moment we landed at the ferry terminal and were greeted by the lovely staff from narawana resort awaiting our shuttle bus to take us to the resort, they were absolutely amazing. Upon arrival we were given refreshments while we waited to check in. From start to finish, the staff were nothing but amazing, sweet and helpful to us which made our stay even more enticing. You will not get bored at this resort as there is endless activities that are offered to you and your family. My partner and I couldn’t be happier with our stay here. Our only criticism is that we wish that we stayed here longer than just the one night. We will definitely be back!

We are here in Bintan specifically to play golf but other than that I have no idea why anyone would come here. There is nothing in Bintan other than golf courses and the resort you stay at and unfortunately the resorts know that. The problems the Nirwana has are similar across many of the resorts. Everything looks very old, very dated and kind of sad. There is a sense of desperation. When a member of our group was trying to book, the booking website stated only 2 villas left. That is definitely not the case, the place is dead, we can’t believe how empty it is. We were joking that at times it felt like being in the movie The Shining. One repercussion is the resort seems to try to exploit those tourists that do them a favour and stay by gouging them for absolutely everything. Of the numerous villlas most are desolate. And yet we somehow end up in one next to what looks like septic or some kind of storage tanks. The entire resort is very empty but they don’t seem to make any attempt to value those that are here. There hasn’t been a manager in sight, one would think one would be around treating the few customers and that are here with some appreciation and maybe trying to incentivize them to return. Instead, any little thing we try and do the hotel will try to exploit you. The overcharging is outrageous. The food prices are like high end Singapore restaurant prices but the quality is extremely far from that. Because there are so few guests it is questionable how much is fresh. Some thing’s seem to be frozen food heated up. My group is not all that fussy usually but I have seen some dishes left practically untouched. And when we tried to use some of the facilities, which again are practically vacant, the prices are ridiculous. Bowling that costs more than peak period, prime location bowling alleys in Singapore. I honestly don’t get it, why not price things in a manner that might actually encourage tourism and repeat customers. Bintan is not 5 star and resorts like the Nirwana are not either regardless of what is stated, why try and charge 5 star pricing? No discounts have been negotiated with nearby golf courses. The discounts on bowling we were supposed to have was reneged on. The resort is aging, paint pealing off buildings. We get the sense that the staff themselves, who to be fair are pleasant, polite, and are probably themselves grossly underpaid, are embarrassed by the prices being charged. In todays world where flights are cheap and you can go to Thailand, Vietnam and so many other places, it is difficult to make the case for coming to Bintan and The Nirwana hotel certainly doesn’t help that case.

Dining Experience:
The resort has six restaurants, and I got to try four of them: The Coffee Shop, the Kelong Seafood restaurant, the Calypso Floating Bar, and Dino Bistro. Just to note that all menu prices are before adding 11% tax and 10% service charge, which does bump up the final bill.

My absolute favorite was the Coffee Shop, great prices, tasty food, and super friendly service! We tried some Indonesian dishes such as Ayam Baker Taliwang (240,000 IDR), Nasi Goreng Nusantara (200,000 IDR), Authentic Pepes(275,000 IDR) and the portions were generous for the price. The waiters were so sweet, always smiling and making us feel welcome.

The Kelong Seafood Restaurant was also nice. We shared the small seafood fried rice (180,000 IDR) (plenty for two!) and the fried octopus (280,000 IDR), which was okay but nothing special. The prices felt a bit high for what we got, though.

Calypso Floating Bar was awesome for drinks with its splendid view. Since I don’t drink alcohol, I went for mocktails; all delicious, especially the bartender’s special one (blue one)! At around 90,000 IDR per drink, I thought it was pretty reasonable.

Now, Dino Bistro was a bit disappointing. The spring chicken main course (250,000 IDR) was tiny and just… not great. The cripsy seafood pizza (240,000 IDR) tasted good, but there wasn’t much seafood on it. For the price, I expected better.

Overall Stay:
The resort itself is a little old, some furniture and our room had a faint musty smell but the staff were so lovely that it made up for it. The location is perfect, with a quiet, beautiful beach, and we had a blast with the activities too!
